Overview

For the bright young things of 1929, the beautiful days seem endless, filled with romance and heartbreak, adventure and intrigue, friendship and rivalry.

After a month in New York, Cordelia Grey and Letty Larkspur are small-town girls no longer. Letty will at last chase her Broadway dreams—no matter the cost. Cordelia, still reeling from the death of her father at the hands of the man she thought she loved, is set to honor Darius Grey's legacy? . . . ?and take her revenge. Promised to Cordelia's half brother, Charlie Grey, Astrid is caught up in a world of dazzling jewels and glittering nights—and the sparkle is blinding.

A bitter rivalry will ensnare them all in a dangerous feud played out in the speakeasies of Manhattan and the great lawns of Long Island, and for Astrid, Cordelia, and Letty, the stakes could be deadly.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
An airy and glamorous historical novel, Beautiful Days is the second book in a new historical fiction series set at the end of the Roaring Twenties by best-selling author Godbersen. The adventures of Cordelia the heiress, Letty the aspiring starlet, and Astrid the socialite, which began in Bright Young Things (HarperCollins, 2010/VOYA Online October 4, 2011), continue with Cordelia and Letty settling into their new lives after moving to New York from a small town in the Midwest and with Astrid engaged to Cordelia's bootlegger brother, Charlie. With the mansions of Long Island and the speakeasies of New York serving as the backdrop, the book is a romantic escape from reality. Godbersen is the author of a similar and popular series of historical fiction for teens, The Luxe, which is set in nineteenth-century Manhattan. A light yet busy story line with enough character development, description, romance, and intrigue to engage readers, Beautiful Days is recommended for teens who enjoy the privileged Gossip Girl style of series fiction. the jazz age

ahh, the 1920s ! This is a decade one can't forget! Fringed Dresses, Flappers, lots of jewels and jazz music that will sure transport a reader back to this time. Love how Anna Godbersen mixes history with a good story.

    Loved it!

A fabulous sequel to Bright Young Things. Cleverly answered questions lingering at the end of the first book in the series while adding excitement and adventure. I did not feel it was monotonous, and it was a pleasure to see the characters develop from young girls to working women. Really looking forward to the next book in the series!

Great Follow Up to the First Book!

The second book in the Bright Young Things series is a breath of fresh air! Typically I read YA / Urban Fantasy work (Cassandra Clare, Chloe Neill, etc.) but I read the first book in this series and had to immediately pick up the second book. What I love most about this book is that it is such an escape from the darker books I usually read, as well as reality. There is a completely different vibe when you aren't worried about vampires eating your favorite character(s). I adore these characters, these young women who are all strong in their own ways. I can relate to Letty well and long to be more carefree like Astrid and able to control my emotions like Cordelia. Read the book... you will want to sneak into a speakeasy, wear beaded gowns and dance the Charleston, no matter your age (if you don't know what the Charleston is, YouTube it!)!

    Excellant read!

If you are into the roaring '20s then this is the book for you! It covers everything from bootlegging to illicit births and even scandals of lust. I highly reccommend it and I can't wait to read the sequel to it!

Hobbitsies Reviews: Stunning and glamourous, wonderful follow-up

Beautiful Days is an absolutely dazzling book - page after page of glamour and drama. I felt transported to the 1920s whilst reading it. I was Letty, I was Cordelia, I was Astrid - I was wearing sequined dresses and going out to night clubs every night and flying in planes with strange men and getting my heart broken and my hopes crushed and then having them built back up again. Anna Godbersen's writing took me through all these events as if I were experiencing them myself.

Once again, I find myself reluctantly closing one of Anna Godbersen's books, eagerly anticipating the next book.

GUYS how freaking eloquent was that? It took me so long to write because all I could think was OH MY GODDD I LOVE THE 1920S I LOVE MUSIC I LOVE SPEAKEASIES AND BOOZE AND FLAPPERS AND CIGARETTE WOMEN AND CORDELIA AND CHARLIE AND ASTRID and etc, you get the point.

Beautiful Days freaking rocked. Like, better-than-Beautiful-Young-Things type of rocked. Because while I loved Beautiful Young Things, I had trouble remembering what happened several months after reading it(except at the end holy crap). With Beautiful Days? Uh-huh, no chance of that!

Seriously. Beautiful Days is an amazing follow-up to Bright Young Things and I am on my toes waiting for the next book in this series. Gorgeous writing, gorgeous cover, fantastic characters, badass time period, confusing and realistic (for the time) romance - this book has something for everyone. Go read this series ASAP.

Continues the tradition of the first book.

Another well written historical piece of fiction. I can't wait for the 3rd installment, but who knows when that will come as this one was just released.
