Overview

**NEW ADULT**

If you're looking for a heartwarming story about a girl who falls deeply in love with a troubled boy who changes her life--a sob story with pretty metaphors and a million ways that'll tell you how "broken" she is, STOP. Don't read another word of this.

I'm not that type of girl.

My name is Emerald Anderson and I'm not going to bullshit you: I flunked out of college after my sophomore year, I've been fired from every job I've ever taken, and I've never had a fully functioning relationship in my life.

I wish I could say that I had a cheerleader in my corner, someone who says, "No, Emerald--You're great and you are good at something!" but I don't. My grandparents are completely oblivious to my life, and my mother's dying words to me were "You're going to end up just like me one day. A beautiful nothing."

She was right.

As I decide to start my life over and take two jobs that will forever change me--one from the inside, and one from the outside, I keep my mother's words close to my heart so I can keep the sexy and mysterious Carter Black away.

He's the first man who's ever pursued me, the first man who seems bent on finding out why I am the way I am, but he's wasting his time.

I'm not broken. I don't need to be fixed. I'm perfectly fine being a beautiful failure...

I absolutely loved this book. Can't wait for 'Beautiful Temptation'.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I started reading this book. The main character sounded like the type of person I would never connect with and thus not care what happened to her. Boy, was I ever wrong. The book grabbed me right from the start. I mean, with an opening line like “my mother was a whore,” how could it not? It took some time, however, for me to begin to appreciate Emerald. Don’t get me wrong, I felt sorry for her, but I didn’t like her. Emerald’s mom was a prostitute who put a higher value on looks and “sponsors” than she did brains, friends or family. “Values” she instilled in Emerald from an early age. She was more of a friend than a mother. Emerald is definitely a product of her environment. While she’s smart, she’s not driven. She can’t hold a job. She doesn’t really have any friends. In one of her short stints at a coffee shop, she meets two people who will change her life in totally different ways: her co-worker Sarah and (OMG hot) customer Carter. Sarah helps Emerald find much more lucrative employment and Carter helps her learn about herself and love. This book was absolutely engrossing. I read it in one sitting without stopping for even a bathroom break. There was scandal, passion, romance and heartbreak. I grew to adore Emerald, a character I was rather ambivalent about at first. She changed and matured so much in this book. Oh, and I want a Carter in my life. But, the cliffhanger! Eeek! The next book in this series can’t come soon enough. I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Ok this book is amazing. Great characters. Great plot. Great writing. Oh and sexy as hell (although it could've used a little more sex!)
