Beautiful Illusions - a page-turning, sexy, and very contemporary adult romance novel.

VERY contemporary.

Beautiful Illusions is a Cinderella Romance With a Twist - and what a twist it is!

Attorney Iris Snowe drinks too much, eats too much, and spends too much. Her sex life has been as spectacularly unsuccessful as her law practice, so she spends her evenings in her tiny apartment watching bad TV, talking to her cat, and rescuing pit bulls.

And her name might be Iris, but it should be Jade. As in jaded, which is how she feels about romance and men in general.

So, when a gorgeous and sexy stranger appears in her law office on Monday morning, after a one-night stand the previous Saturday, she doesn't think that he is coming to see her because he is interested. She just figures that she left something behind in the room and he is enough of a gentleman to deliver it to her.

How wrong she is.

As it turns out, Ryan Gallagher not only looks like a Ralph Lauren model come to life, but is also fabulously wealthy, as he is the son of a prominent billionaire.

In other words, light years out of Iris' league.

And completely into her, in more ways than one.

And so begins the erotic Cinderella romance of her life, with a man who truly loves her. And oh, if it could just be that simple. But, of course, it's not -the fairy tale is fractured, as it is marred by obsession, jealousy, and dark secrets that Ryan has desperately sought to conceal and repress. It turns out that, behind those magnificent green eyes, lies the memories of a past that nobody should ever have to experience. Nobody.

But when his past becomes his present, his secrets come to light.

And one of those secrets just might be deadly...

This is a full-length novel, approximately 100,000 words.

I'm a stickler for reviews, I rely on them for basically everything. Man, I need to stop doing that, especially when it comes to free books. Here I am reading all the great reviews for this book and all of you who have praised this book could not be more WRONG! This book quite frankly, sucked. I couldn't identify at all with any of the characters and I'm sorry but Iris should not be practicing any kind of law. Doesn't matter how stressed you are, be professional and get the job done, worry about your personal sh*t on your own time, not on your client's time. It was nice to see that Ryan wasn't made to be a perfect specimen of a man, he had issues, but the author overdid it with those issues. There was just so much going on, it became unbelievable, almost comically so. I know that Iris was trying to be a decent human being by accepting all facets of Ryan's life, but HELL NO, that other relationship is not acceptable. That's just wrong on so many levels, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You have a relationship with either one or the other, but one those parties is married, where's the respect? That's not cool. Ryan is just being! Oh and the fact that every time something goes wrong in his life he does have a relapse and she sees nothing wrong with that really baffles me! The story got a little better towards the end, after the attack. That portion of the book was the best part and that's the only reason I'm bumping this rating up from 1 star to 2. I could go on and on but you all get the gist.... SR

I felt like this book gave too much of the author's opinions. Especially when Obama was mentioned. Really? Such a volitile topic to add to your book. Also a perfect way to date/outdate the story.

This book was.... decent. It had its good parts and it had it's rushed, poorly elaborated bad ones. It's one of those long books that just seems to keep dragging on and on. Everything horrible that happens just keeps coming one after another and doesn't seem to stop. The plotline was seriously lacking. I liked Iris at first, she seemed very realistic and spunky. But she became incredibly insecure throughout their relationship, to a point that I eventually had a hard time believing their love for one another. It ended up seeming fake. She also whined and cried about everything. Ryan was/is a "Stage 5 Clinger." He definitely creeped me out in the beginning and it's funny because his character is equally insecure as Iris, albeit for different reasons. The suspense surrounding Nick was so built up that when the secret was revealed I was quite disappointed. I'm not sure when this was written, but I felt Iris took on a very naive and ignorant approach to the topic. It blew my mind because she seemed to handle drug abuse, suicide attempts, and child abuse extremely well, but she couldn't handle (IMHO and I don't want to give anything away) Ryan's "lifestyle." Smh. Luckily the book ends without any cliffhangers, in which I will not be getting the next one.

I thought the I character could had been written as a smarter person  considering she was a lawyer.

I found myself getting more frustrated the further i got into this book. I don't know how mant times the author pointed out how "unworthy" Iris felt, but it became too much after awhile. Also, i understand characters having issues, but the amount of issues dealt with in this story made them not believable.

I saw this compared to 50 shades and other such books, but it is not the same. It touches more on people's vulnerabilities and less on their sexual natures. Story starts off rough; the writing was almost amaturish. But the story itself sucks you in. You want to know what Iris will do when she finds out the next piece of who Ryan is. At times I felt she was too accepting, but then many of us try to walk that higher ground with those we care about..until it all catches up with you. It is obvious that she has more to learn about Ryan; that their lives and story is still evolving.

Telling a story in a series of 3 books has indeed become very popular and is totally acceptable to me. It can allow for real development of the characters and the storyline. I'm sorry to say this writer's efforts do not succeed. I did read all 3 parts of the "Illusion" series and would not suggest it unless you have serious masochistic tendencies. There was not a normal character in the book, ANYWHERE. The male and female protagonist had so many problems and had so many negative climactic events happen to them it became painful and overwhelmed the story. They both have very weak self esteem and make their life decisions accordingly. But, oh, there is so much money there, you see that as the glue to hold everyone together. Then she makes them flaming liberals, like that is their redemption. For as long as this goes on there is not much depth to the characters or the story. She will start a story thread and just leave it hanging. The editing was atrocious. It often seemed there was lots of copy and paste going on... I found the whole experience painful, frustrating and the story downright stupid. There are too many interesting stories out there to waste time on this.

I couldn't get past how passive and negitive the main character was. It didnt help that everyone she met seemed to bring this up to her. As I read it I felt like they were both teens not the 30 somethings the writer tried to pretrayed them as.its was dificult to keep reading this...I kept hoping it would get better.

I really wanted to like this book. I certainly liked the concept and the plot was well executed, but I couldn't help feeling like the writer needs more experience. It was supposed to read almost like a journal, but the voice was similar to that of a teenager - even tho she was close to 30. Descriptions of the sex scenes were occasionally good but more often felt like the musings of a teenager recounting her recent experiences. I didn't really get any sense of anything beyond a physical intimacy - but it was a "love story." As mentioned earlier, the POV was that of the girl in the relationship. At one point it switched to the man/boy's POV, but only briefly. It was odd. I wouldn't say this was a bad book. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it was difficult to overlook the superficial emotions (at least that's how it felt to me) and the recounting of mundane details of the day which seemed to have no real impact on the story. I wish the author had put a bit more effort into describing things more poetically, stirring up images and emotions in the reader.

I really was into the first part of this book, Then I thought you have to be kidding me. I couldn't believe so much bad happens. I thought that it over trumped the good. I had to read the second book to see if it could get any better.

This book reminded me of an accident. You don't want to look but you have too. I was hoping it got better but it didn't. It got worse. Thank goodness it was free. I will definitely NOT be paying money for the sequels.

The main guy goes from acting straight to being bi and acting guy in about 100 pages. This book is messed up. Rate 0

I think this book could have been really good but I couldn't get past Ryan's "issues". I mean cheating is cheating and this is not acceptable under any circumstances. I'm all for forgiveness but turning a blind eye for this behavior to continue during a relationship because of his "needs". If Iris isn't enough for Ryan he shouldn't be in a relationship with her. And Iris has about 0% work ethics! I didn't have a very good feeling when this book ended and didn't really want to know what happened to them. Bunch of nuts if you ask me!! Who in their right mind would think this is in any way okay!!

So when I first read this book I thought Ryan had too much of a God complex. He was way too perfect. But I was glad to find that he had flaws. However, I think his past and situation wasa bit much. Personally, he needed more help than what he got in the book. Now onto Iris, I liked her at first but she was way too accepting of Ryan's interesting person is that calm...also by the end she let his craziness affect her too. I thought it was a very interesting story but I still had problems with the content. I am going to read the second one just to see how it will continue...but I say that people should read at their own risk

While the grammar is technically correct, the writing is quite stilted. I did not finish the book

Im honestly not sure how i feel about this book. sometimes, i read it and love it. other times, the characters and situations just make me wince. they often seem very weak, and not in the "thats adorable, i want to protect you" sort of way. just in the good god, get a grip" sort of way. and yet.... i want to read the next book. if i could give 3.5 stars i would, but 3 is too low. while this book is not perfect, i can say that it makes an interesting read, and does make me want to continue the series and see how things turn out
