Overview

From celebrated Hollywood starlets to the covers of Cosmo, our society seems obsessed with beauty. Actress and Main Floor host Nancy Stafford (best known for her starring role as Michelle Thomas on Matlock) digs below our culture's fixation on outward appearance to show you that true beauty is more than skin-deep. "Every woman has beauty," says Stafford, "but not everyone sees it. I want you to see it." In Beauty by the Book she bares her heart to readers, laying out the Scriptures, promises, and truths women need to know to find their true value. Her liberating reflections will help you see yourself as God sees you — worthy, lovable, and beautiful.“Mirror, Mirror, on the W all…”

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you see a unique individual created in the image of Beauty itself—one chosen, Cherished, and valued in the eyes of God? If not, you may be looking in the wrong mirror—one distorted by emotional wounds, lies from your past, or the unrealistic standards of our culture.

“Everyone has beauty and worth,” says Nancy Stafford, “but not everyone sees it. I want you to see it.”

Nancy shares her own poignant story and holds up the true mirror of God’s Word—inviting you to see yourself as God sees you, to absorb His truth, and to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the King is enthralled by your beauty!

    Every woman should read this

I was fortunate to have an autographed copy of this book given to me by my daughter. She attended a conference at which Nancy was the speaker. This book is a must read for every woman. To be able to see yourself as God sees you is to accept yourself as God's own loving creation. What a blessing! It took me two days to read simply because I couldn't stop crying. The realization that God created me for his purpose and loves me unconditionally was almost too much to take it all in.

'A Must-Read for Women of ALL Faiths!'

I am not a Christian, but I found much to identify with as a woman in Beauty by the Book. This is a must-read for women of all faiths -- for any and all women who have ever asked: Am I pretty enough? Am I smart enough? Am I good enough? Nancy Stafford eloquently shows us that the answer is a resounding YES. All we have to do is look beyond the exterior face and body the world sees and find the inner beauty that lies within each and every one of us.

    Outstanding!!

You have seen her on St. Elsewhere and Matlock, in South Florida she is a local television spokesperson for City Furniture, but you have NEVER seen Nancy Stafford as an incredible author! She writes from the heart and soul, she writes about what was missing from her life... a life you would think was 'charmed' (a loving family, close friends, former Miss Florida, successful television/movie career), but you just never know! Nancy shows you how to look deep within and know that you are beautiful because God loves you and through Him you DO have it all!! God Bless you Nancy Stafford for writing this book!

    Healing and Hope

As an young, Christian actress in Hollywood, I struggle with many of the same self-worth issues that Nancy addresses in this wonderful book. Through her words, I have found immense healing and hope. Her honesty draws the reader nearer to her stories and her struggles. She sheds much needed light on a topic that is so often 'swept under the rug,' even by women. This book is not only for women in the entertainment industry, it is for all women. I am sending copies to all of the women in my life!

Heartwarming and refreshing reflections from someone in 'the entertainment industry'

In this amazing book Nancy Stafford (of Matlock fame) allows herself to become painfully transparent in order to give others a vision of what is really important... what really matters! As I experienced each chapter I was moved, taught and encouraged! This book brought healing and restoration as it reached the very deepest parts of me, parts that had been hidden for a long time. Beauty by the Book is a must read for men and women alike!!!

A 'Must Read' for all Women!

So much pain and bitterness from my past has blocked me getting very far in my Christian walk. There's much to let go of and so much to lay on the altar. After reading your book, I believe I can with His help. My heart is lighter than it's been in years. There was so much you wrote that I was able to connect with.... from families that were 'different' than the others, to hatred for my body, to not appreciating my uniqueness, to feelings of unworthiness..... all this garbage was playing over and over again and kept me from being the daughter He created me to be. Wow. Thanks so much for hearing and obeying in the writing of this book

    Not for Women Only

While Nancy may have geared her book toward women, it has a universal theme that men can equally relate to. For example, when she questions why she chose a profession (acting) in which she regularly experiences rejection, I thought about why I also chose a profession (politics) in which I too regularly experience rejection. Her intuitions about this behavior are very compelling.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall..God made you the prettiest...

Nancy Stafford took her heart and spread it on the pages of this book like fine jelly on fresh baked bread. Her purpose for this costly act was to feed truth to those who boldly take her up on this tasty offer. She knows what it feels like to be rejected based on looks. She also has felt the pressure of being accepted just on what is on the outside. Nancy Stafford can speak on this subject with authority because she has paid the price and bore the scares. I invite you to come and sit at her kitchen table to eat the fruit of her life. Her story is laced with truth, wisdom, understanding and raw emotions. If you have ever struggled about how to be a woman of excellence in this society, this book will serve as the key that you have been looking for to unlock the volt on your heart. It will release you to love God for who He has created you to be. My prayer for you is that you see your beauty from God¿s perspective. Believe me when I tell you that perspective is everything! Buy this book for yourself and one for someone you love!

    A Gift for the Heart

Dear Ms. Stafford, I am an actress as well and was raised in the suburbs of L.A. in a Catholic home. I have always tried to spiritually turn my insecurities of body and self over to the care of God, but many times I have let my own will get in the way. Your book concisely laid out wonderful prayers and scripture references to be used in circumstances that quite commonly occur in our daily lives as women. I appreciate the fact that someone who knows the 'Industry' is so grounded spiritually in Christianity and has been able to maintain it and still be successful as an actress. Your book and prayers have become part of my morning meditation and prayer time and I appreciate the fact that I had the opportunity to read your book. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Lenae Raspa
