Overview

“. . .there stood Gloria in her lovely orchid dress with her gold hair aflame and her eyes wide pools of dark blue horror in a white, white face.”

The news dealt a startling blow. Days before her wedding, Gloria Sutherland’s fiancé was shot and killed in a nightclub while dancing with another woman. To avoid the swirling gossip, Gloria travels to her father’s childhood home in Maine, seeking peace but doubting she’ll ever find it again.

Then she meets Murray MacRae, a neighbor and promising young businessman. Gloria’s summer is soon filled with backyard tennis matches and twilight suppers. . .and a faint idea that maybe some men are worthy of trust. Murray’s faith begins to revive Gloria’s hope. If only her past would remain hidden.

Surely no beauty could rise from the ashes of her life. . . .

Editorial Reviews

WorryFreeMom - Karen Palmer

I first discovered Grace Livingston Hill when I was 11 or 12. Livingston's simple stories of faith and romance have been some of my favorites ever since.

Beauty for Ashes is no different. This simple story of two high society girls who find joy in a simpler life and a walk with Christ is uplifting and a joy to read.

Meet the Author

GRACE LIVINGSTON HILL (1865–1947) is known as the pioneer of Christian romance. Grace wrote over one hundred faith-inspired books during her lifetime. When her first husband died, leaving her with two daughters to raise, writing became a way to make a living, but she always recognized storytelling as a way to share her faith in God. She has touched countless lives through the years and continues to touch lives today. Her books feature moving stories, delightful characters, and love in its purest form.  Grace Livingston Hill began writing stories in 1877 at the tender age of twelve and didn’t stop until her death in 1947. But what may be more amazing is that she has sold over 84 million copies and is still loved by young and old alike.

    Hott Synopsis:
Gloria is devastated when barely a week before their nuptials her fiance is killed while out with another girl.
Running away to her father’s ancestral home to avoid the well meaning attention she finds that maybe there is a bit more to this life than she’s always believed.

    Hott Review:
This isn’t my first or even second read of this book. I’ve actually owned it for years and read it several times. Yet, this time I didn’t enjoy it as much as I have in the past. Usually, I’m more able to focus on Gloria’s growth whereas this time I couldn’t get past the devastation that started this.
