Overview

Trees are nature’s works of art: their sculptural branches, rough textured trunks, winding roots, and diverse fruit form living organisms of almost architectural stature. In this artistic tour, the majestic qualities of 100 of the loveliest species are celebrated. From the immense American coast redwood–the world’s tallest organic life form–to the iconic English oak, The Beauty of Trees pays tribute to the breathtaking variety and irreplaceable value of trees from around the world.

Extraordinary species, together with their distinctive features, are stunningly portrayed in this lavish volume: India’s banyan tree with its twisted, hanging roots; the intricate crimson blossom of Australia’s red flowering gum; the unusual fruit and lush leaves of the South American cashew; all are accompanied by wonderfully descriptive narrative.Michael Jordan explores the botany of the trees as well as the legends, facts, and stories surrounding every species, revealing their untold ecological and cultural significance.

Over 200 superb photographs depict these glorious specimens in full color. Remarkable details capture the spectacular diversity of the trees and include the jewel-like shades of the Persian silk tree’s flowers or the fine patterns on the trunk of the lacebark pine. These eye-catching close ups are seen alongside views of the full tree, providing an informative picture of the individual characteristics of each species. With its exquisite images and insightful commentary, The Beauty of Trees will delight anyone who has ever marveled at nature’s most magnificent living structures.
