Edward Dahlberg was born in Boston in 1900 but spent most of his boyhood in Kansas City and Cleveland. He attended the University of California, and received a B.S. in Philosophy from Columbia University. He began writing novels in Monte Carlo in 1926, and lived and wrote in Paris and London during 1926-1928. His first book, Bottom Dogs, with an Introduction by D.H. Lawrence was published in London in 1929 and was issued here in 1930. It has recently been repreinted by City Lights Books, with a new introduction by Dahberg. Because I was Flesh was published in 1964.
