That said, cuts like the atmospheric and brooding lead-off track "Knocked Up" showcase lead-singer Caleb Followill's growing maturity as a singer and lyricist, and bring to mind favorable comparisons to such artists as Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen. Similarly, the moody single "On Call" and the roiling, dramatic "McFearless," while not immediately hummable, do sink into your memory, revealing layers of melody and emotion on repeated listens.

Best Album I've Bought in Years

When I first heard of Kings Of Leon, I was immediately hooked to their upbeat, catchy style on the "Only By The Night" cd. However, my jaw absolutely dropped when I heard that throat-tearing screech Caleb Followill emits repeately on "Charmer." I purchased this cd next day, and have yet to be disappointed by the material. If I could help influence a decision of which track to listen to first (unless, of course, you'd rather go in chronological order), I'd suggest listening to "Ragoo," "Fans," or "On Call" first, just to hear the variety Kings of Leon have to offer. This band doesn't seem to be disappearing any time soon.

    since there wasn't a review...

I really love this CD. I have their first two albums and really enjoyed the raspy-jam sound they had going on, but I really think they stepped it up with this album and I am definitely pleasantly surprised!!! Listen to it... I especially like "On Call"...
