    Great Book

I really enjoyed the story....as a hispanic woman I was excited about a hispanic family involved in politics in this country. I also know the area where the plot takes place which made the stroy more interesting to me...congratulations..great book....

    Timely subject

I enjoyed Frank Caceres' use of language and his sense of humor. The plot had some unusual twists and the subject matter is certainly one that is current. I am looking forward to more works by Frank Caceres. Phil Schneider

    It's about time

As a Hispanic woman, I can really appreciate the idea of a Latino in the White House. It's about time someone addresses the issue. The murder mystery is well-plotted and the suspense is fingernail-biting. The characters are real-life and their dialogue is equally real-life. Under it all lies the philosophy that we are a product of our ancestors - that we are the sum of all their beliefs, thoughts, decisions and experiences. While I certainly believe in our ability to think independently, there's no doubt in my mind that our thoughts are forged by those who came before us. This includes our culture, heritage and traditions. "Because They Were" is a rare find - entertaining fiction combined with a valuable message.
