I've been putting off this review for a while. Not because I didn't like the book, but actually, the opposite. I loved it so much I've been savoring the reading of it like my favorite European chocolate.
Become is the story of Desolation Black, the daughter of Loki or Satan, who has been sent to this world to do her Father's bidding and turn those with the potential for great good to the dark side. (Sounds a little Star Wars-like when I say it that way, doesn't it?) Fortunately for her and her soul, that is not what happens.
Desolation, or Desi, is a fascinating character, full of conflicting emotions and a journey of self-discovery like none other. I love the integration of Norse mythology with greek myths and Christian beliefs. It was done very well and in a subtle enough way, that I was not at all offended, though I am Christian, and I actually embraced the mythology as believable. That is the sign of a very good writer.
Now, I'll admit, I read early drafts of this book as Ali is a good friend of mine, but she didn't make me like it, and she, of all people, would know that I can only be honest in what I like and what I don't. She's the same with me. Believe me. I just got feedback from her on some of my work, and she's big on tough love.
So, knowing that, let me be honest with you: Become is now on my top ten list of favorite series of all time, right up there with Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings, and Mercedes Lackey.
Yes, Ali is that good.
This is the only book I have ever read that when I finished, I wanted to immediately turn back to the first page and start reading again. It is one that will be well read and cherished. As a matter of fact, I wish I could get it in hard back, as I know my paper versions will disintegrate shortly. Thank heavens for my kindle!
Ali, your book is magnificent! Thank you for an awesome escape in a time I needed it most. And any of you out there looking for an entertaining, well written story, please give Become a read. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

lives in hell, literally. She is the only daughter of Satan. His second
in command trains Desi constantly and viscously. They want her to
BECOME, but become what? She is resistant to it and is sent to earth to
stay with some of her fathers minions. Nobody knows who she is or what
she is except for her fathers people. Her lack of people skills and
socialization is explained away with a story about her coming from a
distant land and being the next heir to the throne. Desi only has one
person on earth she trusts and counts as a friend, Lucy. There is an
unfortunate set of circumsances that lead to a death and Desi losing
control and BECOMING. Desi is having visions called Remembering, they
are of another her, another place, another time, and a lover. Starting a
catholic school is hard enough, but her father gives her a target that
he wants, a girl named Miri, Desi resists what he wants because she
finds that she actually likes Miri. On top of that, a boy at school
named Michael, is the boy in her Rememberings. A lot happens in this
book so I will just say that there is a group called The Hallowed that
work for the greater good and are a mixture of angels, fallen and
demons, that wants Desi on their side. She is told that her father plans
to start the Apocolypse and they need her to help them stop it. Desi is
torn apart inside because she is convinced she is evil because of the
BECOMING, but she also feels things with these people that she has never
felt before. Desi will soon find that she has more in common with them
then she thought, there are secrets within secrets that could alter the
course of everything and everyone. She will have to make some very hard
choices and decisions on her road to redemption. You have to read this,
it's so very original and such an interesting story. I loved it.

Desolation rocks! Daughter of the devil and then some. I liked that Desolation has issues. She's far from perfect. Ali Cross does a great job in engaging the reader until the end. It also has a different approach to traditional angels and demons. A great read and I look forward to the sequel.

The author takes characters that should be impossible to sympathize with and makes you fall in love with them. I was completely swept away and utterly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. The author has made a fan for life of me.

Amazing book! It is filled with emotion, action, love, hope. And the cover looks amazing! This is not your normal YA paranormal book!
Become is a story that deals with good and evil, satan, hell, heaven.
Desi is the daughter of Satan all she has ever known is the coldness of hell and what it is about. Her father sends her to Earth to learn how to Become and pretty much embrace her evil side. But while there she befriends another teenage girl, she finds the guy who she remembers from long ago, and she learns that she can choose the path that she wants. Not what her father wants her to choose. Desi learns that not only is she the daughter of Satan but she is also the daughter of someone very powerful and good. She is both light and darkness. Desi fights a battle within herself between the good and evil. But what will she choose? To do what her father wants her to do and inherit the kingdom of hell? Or help all of mankind and follow the goodness that is a part of her?
I can not wait to read book 2 in this series to see what is going to happen next. Since Become had me on the edge of my seat and I did not want to put this book down.

if you are going to throw around names like Loki and Odin at least get
your mythology right. To claim that Loki was ever known as Lucifer is
insulting to every Asatru follower. Even the ones who do villify Loki.
I am not one of those.

This book was very good! The NORSE (not Greek) mythology was spot on. The romance was sweet without being cheesy and the characters were well-developed and unique. Just one little things: I don't know if it was just my copy or what, but the font was HUGE! All in all, extremely good story.

Such a great book and the mixture of angels and demons with Greek mythology is a great new take. The characters were so likeable I found myself trying to talk to them.

In creating a backstory for this book, the author skipped over or omitted some things that would have made the story less confusing to begin with. Overall, I liked the book.

Stats: 600+ nook pages. Decently edited compared to many free books I've read. Paranormal YA romance series. Probably won't pay for the next book. Just OK.

This book turned out better than I expected since it was a free YA book. The myths are actually Norse for those who don't know and yes things will get a tad confusing but it is a really good book. But I will repeat: it's solely Norse myths and legends

This is a great book and i look forward to reading the rest. The overview tells you what the book is about yet people don't pay attention and start reading and then freak over the subject matter. Parents should preload their children's readers or simply not buy them one. Reading most books requires attention and maturity which clearly the ones who low rated this book do not possess. Ones gonna tell their mama and ones gonna tell their pastor....you people need to understand fiction. Its a story. Its imagination. Its entertainment and if you would have patience and actually read with a clear mind you would have read where this daughter of satan(again this is fiction little onrs) chose love and to stay with the good. I hate seeing where this world is heading with alot of things but one of the favorite hobbies of all "reading" great fiction is not appreciated by young people today. This author did a great job and its a great story. I bought all of the books and i hihly recommend this series
