Crazy to say it but if there was one book I wish I had read 2 years ago, it would have been The Bed Bug Survival Guide. There are so many things I didn't even realize could be true (or false) about bed bugs. Who knew that they weren't even nocturnal! Crazy! But, I'm really glad I have it now. I read it through when I got it and got a good idea of what I should be doing. But, honestly, I refer back to it frequently. When my daughter comes home from college, I re-read the travel and college sections to protect her and our home. Truly, its been a very helpful guide and has kept us bed bug free.
I thought I was immune to bed bugs and then, as if overnight, they started cropping up EVERYWHERE. Movie theaters, clothing stores even the Empire State Building. I picked up a copy and essentially bed bug-proofed my apartment and took the necessary precautions he advised when traveling. For those of you on the go, staying in hotels every other night, this book will OPEN your eyes to a new world and shed light on what you should do to avoid bringing back bed bugs. Funny and to the point, Jeff offers practical advice. I'm happy to recommend this to absolutely anyone.
I bought this book when Time Magazine online said it was a must read. They were right. it was a great book that gave great practical advice in dealing with bed bugs when i travel, send kids to school and much more. easy read and funny as well. definate buy
Thought this book would help me with my problems, but I found it quite repetitive. The same thing is repeated over and over again, with the occasional bad joke thrown in for an attempt at humor. Did I mention it's repetitive? Because it's repetitive. Just do a Google search on bedbugs and you can find all you need to know. Three or four facts which are just repeated in this book over and over again. See how repetitive my review is? Now you have an idea of what reading this book is like. Repetitive!
This is the only sensible book (or brochure or web site) on the subject of bed bugs that I've ever seen. Extraordinarily, it is very well and clearly written by a person who is clearly knowledeable and experienced. We ended up using his service to prepare for, and to treat. He is sensible and rational, unlike some others in the field who do not have his expertise and common sense. His emphasis on prevention, and telling you how to, is excellent. He also tells us of the only two brands of mattress and box spring encasings that he recommends with, again, common sense reasons. This is THE book to read, and fast (it reads fast) if you or a neighbor has a bed bug problem.
I read this because an Aunt acquired these bugs after providing book-keeping services in someone's home office. The office was in the guest room of the home. It was such an expensive nightmare! I think the book is very credible and informative, although I was surprised that the Author gave mixed reviews to the high heat treatment. According to the internet, Many Universities ( Cornell, Tennessee, UFL) are receiving government grants to study the solutions and they indicate these bugs dehydrate easily and heat is the way to go. This author indicated that people weren't successful with it. Heat worked for my Aunt. She has had NO bugs for 8 months. Maybe it depends on whether or not the treatment is done right. Meanwhile, I am following every step set out in this book to avoid introducing them into MY home. What a nightmare they are. I will never even put my carry-on in an overhead bin or taxi trunk without putting it inside a clear plastic bag first...
Great, informative book with a sense of humor! Highly recommended!
The Bed Bug Survival Guide saved my life. Not only did it out my mind at ease in terms of preventing bed bugs, but it gave me a lot of information that debunked a lot of myths I've heard. Easy read and VERY informative!
