"--ready for bed, just like you!

She picked up her Ted . . .
She clambered and climbed into her bed."

But Suzy Sue can't fall asleep, because she simply can't get comfortable in her bed. She soon discovers why. A cow and a horse and a sheep and a goat are all crowding in and trying to share space with her. Children will laugh at this comical fantasy--and many kids will identify with the little girl who can't fall asleep at bedtime. Big, funny, full-color illustrations complement the story on every page

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1—Suzy Sue is trying to go to sleep, but she is quite uncomfortable and comes to realize that she is sharing her bed with a variety of farm animals. As each critter is discovered, it seems just as surprised as the child that someone else is there. Each discovery is fun, but the best one is when Suzy thinks she is lying on a soft pillow and then finds out it's actually a sheep. She eventually takes the animals back to the barn to tuck them in and read them a book. She then gets into bed with them and nods off. The animals scoop Suzy up and put her back in her own bed for a good night's sleep. McQuillan's illustrations and Kelly's rhyming text make this book an enjoyable read-aloud. The brightly colored pictures show friendly animals with big faces and small expressive eyes. The colors add to the whimsy (a hen is purple with polka dots), and children will love seeing that even barn animals sleep with stuffed animals. Great for that quiet one-on-one sharing that happens right before bedtime.—Lora Van Marel, Orland Park Public Library, IL
