Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In lifestyle expert Littlefield's picture book debut, a brown-and-white dog addresses readers (human and canine) directly, narrating a story about a solo outing he takes one day because his owner, aka "friend," is busy. The dog is responsible ("He fetched his leash. ") and conscientious ("He stopped at the corner, looked both ways... then crossed the street"), but because he has no friend with him, he finds the park lonely: "The good dog found a stick. But there was no friend to throw it." With its thick outlines, bright colors, beady canine eyes, and endearing dog's-eye viewpoint, debut illustrator Heath's artwork recalls Mark Newgarden and Megan Montague Cash's Bow-Wow Bugs a Bug (2007) and its companion books; blocky, upper-case text gives the pages a feeling that's half comic book, half primer. Words and commands familiar to dogs (lie down, treat, squirrel, good dog) lace the text and provide potential opportunities for interactivity with pets; kids are more likely to be attracted to the art and the novelty of the dog's narration than to the very basic story he tells. All ages. (June)

    A delightful idea!

I thoroughly enjoyed this little book and so did my two dogs. It is full of words they both knew, especially the "T" word: Treat! I love the artwork and the little story that goes with it. This would make a cute gift for any dog lover. It's also a perfect book to share with children and anyone else in the family. What a delightful idea!

    Lilac Wolf and Stuff Review

My first children's book to review! And it's a new family favorite. I didn't read it myself, I took it with us for our first summer story time before bed. The boys LOVED it. In fact Ivan (2 1/2 yrs old) has insisted I read it about a dozen times in the first 3 days we have had it. I'd say that makes it a hit. My 5 yr old gets mad if he misses a reading of it.

The pictures are simply drawn and colored and this gives me a sense of simplicity and safety...comforting. I could look at them for ages. The story is also quite simply written, making it a great book to start reading with as well as being great for the little ones who won't sit for long.

And finally it has a touch of humor. There's a scene at the park when the dog is doing "his business" behind a bush, the boys recognize that position because we have a dog, and the squirrel in the tree is covering his eyes...the boys are rolling on the floor...honestly we all found that page gigglicious.

So yes - go buy this book for the child in your life. And if I can have a bit of a soapbox time here, instead of buying a $3 card the child can't read and honestly won't get the sentiment, buy them a book and sign the cover for them. It will follow them much longer and serve a better purpose. Hint, hint, this book would be a great birthday card!

    Fun & Unique!

Love this book! It's a fun and quirky way to celebrate and spend time with the pets in your life, and is also a must-have for kids. Full of fun pictures and simple words for young kids and pups alike to learn and understand, this book is definitely on my good list.

This also serves as a great educational tool: kiddos who read to their pets learn to read 30% faster than kids who read solely to their human friends (according to a cool study done in Cali).

Don't miss out! Buy this one now.
