It is always so wonderful for readers, parents, children, librarians, and educators, when they see the fact that children's books are STILL a wonderment in the making. There are authors and illustrators who STILL combine their forces to create imagination, beauty and happiness that 'draws' children in to the power of books (instead of the power of text messaging, or something equally as silly). Chester Raccoon is a character that all children will relate to. Why? Because this is a story that focuses on an issue every child (not to mention every adult) suffers from every once in a while. Chester is a young raccoon who simply wants to take a nap, but because of his glorious and unending imagination, he sees the bright spot of sunlight coming through the hole in his tree as a 'wicked' thing. In that sun - as it moves throughout the daytime - Chester sees crocodiles, bears, and more in the shadows that the sun makes across the floor. Not to mention - the sun DOES move! Which means the bright spot seems to be following Chester at times, just waiting to 'get him.' Who is the savior? Who is the person who you love most in your heart that will come and conquer those crocodiles and make you feel better? Exactly! As all readers know, that person is the valiant parent who gives you that ultimate hug and kiss and makes all the bad creatures go away. This book teaches imagination and beauty; finding the fantastical in the shadows. AND it is one of those incredible stories that teaches the love of a family and how love and peace can make all the 'bad stuff' disappear! Quill Says: A great read with precious illustrations!

The delightful illustrations bring the story to life for even the youngest of listeners. This is a wonderful bedtime story that will chase away the monsters before they have a chance to come out and play. Digital Advanced Reader edition provided by publisher for review purposes.
What child has not feared monsters under the bed? Chester Raccoon is no different. When he goes to bed in the afternoon, the sun is up, and it throws shadows against the floor and walls of his bedroom. Chester thinks these shadows are animals that could harm him. He cannot go to sleep, just as your child cannot when the monster fear arises. Mrs. Raccoon gives Chester a gentle kiss. This simple reminder that he is loved, helps Chester calm his fears and sleep. This board book will help little ones who fear those monsters, but they will not fear the book. The scary animals in Chester's room are not at all scary. The spiders have smiles and look silly in the outfits they wear. This story will gently help your child deal with the monsters in his room without scaring or causing more demons. It is also a great way to introduce Chester Raccoon into your child's story time. They will love all Chester and his pals. The illustrations are soft and gentle, just like the story. Chester Raccoon is cute and lovable. A Bedtime Kiss for Chester Raccoon is a wonderful bedtime story for the younger set.
This book is an adorable tale about a little raccoon who is afraid of the daylight (since that he is when he goes to bed) and how his mother makes him feel so much better by giving him very special bedtime kiss. I loved this book so much as did both my sons. This could become a new nighttime favorite.
