Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
A few changes in some familiar prayers, large print, pictures for specific words in the text and colorful illustrations make this a fun book for children. At the beginning is a list of words with representative pictures: angel, bed, cricket, sheep and stars to name a few. The illustrations show children going to bed, praying, reading the Bible or sleeping with angels keeping watch. A father kisses a boy while the mother turns out the light. In the well-known prayer: "Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. (picture of angels) watch me Through the night. Until I wake in morning (picture of a sun)." Children will fill in the words for the pictures as parents read the text and will soon be able to read the book for themselves. A note to parents at the end has suggestions to make prayer and reading inviting. The prayers are brief. The pictures have an air of safety and tranquility. Children and parents will be inspired to pray and children will learn to read. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
