Bee-bim bop ("mix-mix rice") is a traditional Korean dish. In bouncy rhyming text, a hungry child tells of helping her mother make bee-bim bop: shopping, preparing ingredients, setting the table, and sitting down to enjoy a favorite meal. The enthusiasm of the narrartor is conveyed in the whimsical illustrations, which bring details from the artist’s childhood in Korea to his depiction of a modern Korean-American family. The book includes Linda Sue’s own bee-bim bop recipe!

I found this at the Minnesota Children's Museum just as my friends were about to adopt their first child from Korea. I sat down and found a copy immediately and ordered it for them! My own copy is on order now. A delightful rhyme describes a Korean Child and her mother preparing the traditional Korean meal called Bee Bim Bop (a stir fry type dish)_from grocery shopping to multigenerations gathering to eat the meal. Includes the recipe definitions and preparation suggestions in the back. Very catchy and fun for both me and the kids. Pictures and rhythm show the child impatiently but happily "waiting" and "helping" just like any kid the world over waits for their favorite meal to be prepared.
Ko-chee-chang, what do you think that is? Read Bee-bim Bop! and you will know. This children's book is a wonderful way to inspire family activities. Enjoy the rhythm and rhyme along with the colorful illustrations. The illustrations give great detail of the facial features. This book, I believe, children and the adults reading to them will delight in.
