Overview

With a style that is simultaneously self-effacing and downright hilarious, Van Whitfield's Beeperless Remote is the cleverly told tale of one man who has been thrown into the dating pool and is struggling to get out.

Meet Shawn Wayne. He's single, employed, hard-bodied, a former All-American, and looking for his ideal woman. Shawn may have an obsession with ESPN's "Sports Center," money, and going to the gym, but he's a good guy. According to his best friend, Kelly, however, he may have to "expand his universe" a little to find the right woman.

Shawn's search for the woman of his dreams leads to dating misadventures ranging from nightmare blind dates and underage flings to encounters with married swingers. Held hostage by today's technology, where dating has become a complex web of answering machines and cell phones, he finds the rules have changed, and that he now has to contend with six different types of women:1s—"I just got out of a really bad relationship."2s—"I'm not interested in a relationship. I just have friends."3s—"What is it you said you do for a living?"4s—"Men are dogs."5s—"My biological clock is ticking. I need a man."6s—"I'm single, I'm available, and, yes, I'm interested."Will Shawn find his "6"? Read this hilarious Blackboard and Emerge bestseller and find out.

This book was crazy but it really kept you on your toes. This had my friends judging themselves with the scale on the back of the book. I like the way it ended because it was the way to end a confused man and thats confused. Two thumbs up

The book was okay. The beginning was very boring it doesn't catch your attention and once it does it leaves you stuck in the end because it doesn't finish it off.

This book was a joke. I realize it's fiction, but aren't you supposed to get some truth or reality out of it? How is it, that an educated black man (yes, he was a jock, but he was an intelligent jock) in this day and age, be so stupid? I realize he's not up on all the 'black vernacular' but he has a friend, excuse me, a BEST friend from the streets who knows all the lingo. How is it that he never paid attention? And what about the part when Jesse Jackson had the entire audience at the Congressional Black Caucus chanting 'Keep hope alive' this idiot actually wanted to know who was Hope, and why did they want to keep her alive, was must be really important if all these people want to keep her alive.' And he actually didn't know who Jesse was when they rode the elevator together, all he knew is that he appeared on Sportscenter so he had to be important. Readers, don't waste your money, this book was a joke.
