Held hostage by today's technology, where dating has become a complex web of answering machines and cell phones, he finds the rules have changed, and that he now has to contend with six different types of women:

  • 1s—"I just got out of a really bad relationship."
  • 2s—"I'm not interested in a relationship. I just have friends."
  • 3s—"What is it you said you do for a living?"
  • 4s—"Men are dogs."

Will Shawn find his "6"? Read this hilarious Blackboard and Emerge bestseller and find out.Discussion Questions: Question: Shawn utilizes a rating system to describe six different types of women. Do you feel this system is accurate? Do you see yourself or your friends somewhere in this system? What numbers and phrases would you attach to men?

Question: Shawn's mother plays a dominant role in his life. Does this accurately reflect the mother/son relationships of the men in your life? What piece of his mother's advice did you find especially thoughtful? Did you find Mrs. Wayne's advice to be consistent with that of your mother?

Question: Troi, Shawn's main love interest, is depicted as a focused, career-oriented woman of the '90s. What do you think she saw in Shawn? Would you have gone to the black-tie dinner with him? Was Shawn misled?

Question: In Beeperless Remote, Whitfield sets up several different dating scenarios. Have you and your friends found yourselves in similar situations? How and where do single men and women meet today? Would you date a man like Shawn? Do you know men like Shawn?

Question: Beeperless Remote ends in a climactic fashion. In your opinion, what happens next? Will Donnie maintain his new way of life? Will Kelly's relationship with Lance continue? What will happen when Troi comes back to D.C.? Will Dawn and Shawn persevere? What do you think is the "good news" Dawn refers to in her last message?

    The mind of a man

This book was crazy but it really kept you on your toes. This had my friends judging themselves with the scale on the back of the book. I like the way it ended because it was the way to end a confused man and thats confused. Two thumbs up

    Could have a better ending

The book was okay. The beginning was very boring it doesn't catch your attention and once it does it leaves you stuck in the end because it doesn't finish it off.

What?! You actually liked this book?

This book was a joke. I realize it's fiction, but aren't you supposed to get some truth or reality out of it? How is it, that an educated black man (yes, he was a jock, but he was an intelligent jock) in this day and age, be so stupid? I realize he's not up on all the 'black vernacular' but he has a friend, excuse me, a BEST friend from the streets who knows all the lingo. How is it that he never paid attention? And what about the part when Jesse Jackson had the entire audience at the Congressional Black Caucus chanting 'Keep hope alive' this idiot actually wanted to know who was Hope, and why did they want to keep her alive, was must be really important if all these people want to keep her alive.' And he actually didn't know who Jesse was when they rode the elevator together, all he knew is that he appeared on Sportscenter so he had to be important. Readers, don't waste your money, this book was a joke.
