Overview

"Dear Uncle, Something terrible has happened. A madman has moved into our house!" This story of a boy named Christoph and his eccentric new upstairs neighbor is designed to introduce young people to Beethoven's life, character, and music. Beethoven Lives Upastairs is told through a series of letters between Christoph and his uncle that is evocatively accompanied by excerpts from many of the composer's best-known symphonies, sonatas, and chamber works. Although very young children might be frightened by the initial appearance of the "madman" Beethoven, the tale is suitably compelling -- and highly educational -- for ages five and up.

This CD is wonderful. It teaches kids about classical music, Beethoven, and about not judging others before you get to know them. The CD does differ some from the video but both are engaging for young and old alike. The narration is fantastic, with each narrator playing their part expertly. I strongly recommend this CD and its related video to any parent or teacher interested in exposing their youngsters to the greatness of Beethoven and classical music.
