Overview

Introduce classical music to your little cuties with a little help from Sing Along Symphonies. This entertaining album recasts the "greatest hits" of classical music -- including Tchaikovsky's "1812" Overture and Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik -- with some wild and wacky kid-friendly lyrics. The disc's hilarious rendition of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony claims "Beethoven's wig is big/ it's stylish and it's handsome./ It costs a small king's ransom/ 500 bucks and then some!" Tchaikovsky's "1812" Overture takes on an even more bodacious sound with a little help from the explosive lines: "Tchaikovsky's Cannonball/ Blew up the concert hall!/ But everyone could see/ I made history./ That's the great Tchaikovsky's Cannonball!" This wonderfully imaginative approach to "serious music" for little people exposes the younger audience to the wonders of the classics with an irresistibly skewed sense of humor.

My 7 year old began taking piano lessons 6 months ago. In light of this I bought this cd for him to introduce him to classical composers & the standards of classical music. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The songs are edited; not too long & drawn out, just perfect for kid's attention span. Also, the "lyrics" added seem a bit corny at first listen, but the sheer genius of the lyrics make their way to the fore front quickly. It also has all of the tracks without the "lyrics". At first my son was not interested in the tracks with the lyrics, he preferred the musical tracks. However, that has changed lately as he has began listening to the lyric tracks. Now, he will play the musical tracks & add the lyrics himself! This is a very good series, it it the perfect way to introduce children to classical music.

I love this music. The lyrics make these classical masterpieces fun to listen to and more memorable for children. My only complaint is that the songs are so short. None last for more than 3 minutes so you only get a taste of each piece of music. I was excited to see that the "regular" version of each piece was also included in the cd, however, those tracks are also as short as the lyrical ones. Overall it's an enjoyable cd. I love classical music and I am a nanny, so I definitely enjoy being able to share my favorite music with my charges! I definitely recommend.

You've heard of "gateway drugs"? Well, this cd is a gateway to classical music. My 7 and 9yo got hooked on this and progressed quite naturally/happily to The Best of Beethoven and the rest of our small classical music collection. We love it!

Corny lyrics may help your child remember and get used ot classical music. My 7-year old laughed at he lyrics and then opted to only listen to the non-lyricized classical mucic version only.

I have used this CD to get kids excited about classical music and it has been a great time! The lyrics are full of accurate facts as well as funny lines. Wonderful!!!

My father-in-law bought it for my 1 year old daughter. She digs it. I find her dancing to the songs. I love it too. I had never been exposed to classical and now I am learning the songs. They really do stick in your brain. Very clever. I plan on buying it for all the kids in my life for the holidays.

What others have told me is right: these songs will be stuck in your head whether you like it or not! I love Beethoven and my kids (3 out of 4, all boys) love it, but now, every time I hear Beethoven's 5th, all I can think about is his wig!! ;o)

As a lover of Classical Music, I bought this for my 5 yr-old daughter who absolutely cannot get enough of Beethoven's Wig (not to mention the Can-Can song)! As with her earlier collection of Baby Einstein, she is fascinated w/the delightful music! Many THANKS to Richard Perlmutter for this wonderful enchantment of such fabulous music! We HIGHLY recommend it!

I bought this CD over a year ago and my children (Ages 5,7 & 12) love it!! Even adults will find themselves singing along. I highly recomend this CD.

My kids are ages 6 and 8 and they absolutely love this CD. The lyrics are very catchy, and adults will find themselves with the symphonies firmly stuck in their heads, too. This is a great way to introduce classical music to children or reinforce their love of it.

With classical music, most children acquire a taste for it after years of listening via their parents. This CD instantly hooked my 5 year old son. He proudly says he loves opera! He at first loved the music, but once he discovered that the words were describing the composers and their music, its like Discover Channel on CD!

I think this is not such a great CD because it ruins the wonderful compositions of classical artists such as these. There are much better classical music for kids Cds out there that are more educational and respect the intent of the composer as well as the piece itseld. Also, the people singing in the CD: A. sing so loud you can barely hear the instruments and B. sing horribly. Everyone I'ver personally talked to about this CD thinks it is a disgrace and it is horrible. I do not recommend it. However, positively, it is a decent introduction to classical music (although there are better ones out there) and it is pretty creative. It may be enjoyable depending on how important music is to you in your life and whether you truly care about classical music (I know I do). That's All. Good Luck on your decision! :)

I bought Beethoven's Wig for our 3.5 and 1.5 year old daughters after listening to it at a friend's. Both of them LOVE it, maybe as importantly both my husband and I enjoy it also - the music itself it great, no questions there, and the lyrics make it fun for the kids. The fact that the lyrics mention the composers name during the piece is awesome - heck I am learning, I am sure they will soon, too. I will buy the others in the series soon. Highly recommend it if you are tired of listening to the same "kids music" over and over and over again.
