Bad things...

A death-chamber revelation brings ex-FBI agent Arden Davis out of retirement to help catch the madman who murdered her family.
When a mysterious stranger named Nathan Fury asks Arden Davis to return to the Hill-a former asylum now used for clandestine projects-to help profile her family's killer, she has no choice but to return to that dark place. Even if it destroys her mind. Even if it kills her.
Years ago, seeking a way to endure her horrific past, Arden participated in an experiment to bleach her mind, erase the bad things. Now, struggling to uncover the truth, she can no longer distinguish between friends and enemies. Only one thing is clear: the killer is closer than she thought...
As the line between reality and illusion blurs, as paranoia and suspicion build, Arden suspects she is a pawn in a bigger game. She suspects a cover up. She suspects acquaintances new and old. Most frightening of all, she suspects herself...

"An original, highly suspenseful, ingeniously crafted tale that dares to question reality... Frasier has filled this clever plot with daring twists, realistic characters, and a chilling narrative that thrills with each page. This is not a meatloaf and potatoes kind of read, but rather a bold new recipe that satiates and awakens those tired old taste buds and is definitely worth each and every calorie."

A novella which requires some suspension of disbelief but it manages to pack a considerable amount of action in the limited pages. Sometimes the characters seem under developed but for the most part the reader has an interest in them. Perhaps the twist at the end is predictable but the writing is so good that you won't mind finishing this book.

A former FBI profiler finds herself returning to participate in a project that had once ruined her life and the lives of those around her - Project TAKE (Through A Killer¿s Eyes), an experiment where Arden Davies is dumped into a tank for days and `forced¿ to get into the mind of a killer. Minutes before Albert French¿s execution, he passes a note to FBI Agent Nathan Fury with the words ` I Did Not Kill That Couple In Ohio.¿¿ Fury sets out to search for Arden who, ever since the tragedy, had relocated to a sleepy old town and lived her days in monotony as a bartender. He succeeds in persuading her to join him in a quest to find the real murderer of her parents. Reluctantly, Arden immerses herself in the Hill where the projects are being held and soon, blood and mayhem occur on the grounds. With the help of other voluntary `rats¿, Arden rescues her old FBI colleague, Harley and heads off to Ohio, back to her family farmhouse where it all began. Ultimately, it all boils down to the destructive after effects of a project gone haywire that poisons the minds around it. A spooky thriller that features flat, odd characters with split and fractured personalities. All the elements of a spine-tingling story are there, but alas, it turned out to be a most forgettable book. Even as I write this, I cannot even recall the details of the ending in this morose novel because it did not grip me in the least. Readers will be flipping through the pages not because they cannot wait to find out what happens next, but because they are enthusiastic about finishing it off and getting it over and done with.

I have not read any of her books before this one, but I really want to get my hands on them all. I just could not take my eyes off of this one. I just wanted to know who did it. I had no problem following the storie and liked how she made everyone look like they could have been the one. I give it 4 stars because I had a little trouble getting it started, but after the Third chapter I was hooked. I know it you like suspense in a book, I feel you will love this one.

This book is different from the previous three and I might add a bit confusing. Sure I thought maybe it was all in my head being a 14 year old student it might be some what diffivult to understand. But I spoke to others and they found that same sense of confusion. Overall its a good book not GREAT but still consider it. I recommend it to anyone who loved her previoius books.

Wonderful psychological, atmospheric thriller. Before I Wake is a very internal, character-driven book with a strong sense of place. I love the way everyone was a suspect, and that the main characters couldn't even be sure of their own innocence. The mood and spooky factor kind of reminded me of Flatliners. It did require some suspension of disbelief, which wasn't a problem for me.

After the madman who killed her family admits moments before being executed that he did not kill them, though he did kill quite a few people, Arden finds herself plunged back into a nightmare. The extreme steps she took to escape the horrors in her past will have to be undone in order to catch and stop the true killer. Through her horrifying journey into her lost past, Nathan Fury will be beside Arden as much as possible, yet there is only so much help one person can give another. ...................... All through the story, it seemed as if something was missing, like this was the latest entry in a series, and if you knew the other books, you might enjoy this one. However, I couldn't care enough about what was going on to want to explore this idea. The characters are flat and the suspense is just not there.
