Overview

"ONCE UPON A TIME"

IS TIMELESS

Etienne de Brabant is brokenhearted. His wife has died in childbirth, leaving him alone with an infant daughter he cannot bear to name. But before he abandons her for king and court, he brings a second child to be raised alongside her, a boy whose identity he does not reveal.

The girl, La Cendrillon, and the boy, Raoul, pass sixteen years in the servants' care until one day a very fine lady arrives with her two daughters. The lady has married La Cendrillon's father, and her arrival changes their lives.

When an invitation to a great ball reaches the family, La Cendrillon's new stepmother will make a decision with far-reaching effects. Her choice will lead La Cendrillon and Raoul toward their destiny — a choice that will challenge their understanding of family, test their loyalty and courage, and, ultimately, teach them who they are.

Sweet retelling of Cinderella in a real setting

Though this version didn't have as much conflict as the classic tale, the invusion of original (and actually, more acurate to the original Grimm Brothers' version) angles and characters kept this one compelling and whimsical. There is even a bit of twist!

    Great Read

Before Midnight was an interesting retelling of Cinderella. Though it started off a little slow, it kept my interest the entire book and wrapped up with a really great ending. Though it wasn't the best book I've ever read, I enjoyed it very much and would say to anyone looking at it that it's certainly worth reading!

    Fantastic!!

This book was so much fun! I am a super sucker for fairytale re-imaginings and I love that this one was completely different than anything else I have read ( fairytale-wise ). If you like twists on classics, this book is for you. I have also read Snow in this series and I loved that as well. Guess I'll have to get them all!! you should too.

I highly enjoyed this book! I am not a big fan of the fairy tale 'Cinderella', but this book strayed away just enough from the original storyline for me to love it! I can still see 'Cinderella' in it, but not so much that it is an exact repeat. PROPS TO CAMERON DOKEY ON THIS ONE!!! lol

    Entertaining and Fun Read

I loved reading this book. It was touching and lovely written. I loved the way that Cameron Dokey created the story in a new light. Using this book, I even got my sister addicted to this series. That is not an easy task. I think it is a delightfully enchanting story.

    Awesome!!!

This is a great book, I love how the Author twisted the story, instead of a evil step mother she was a lot nicer and treated Cinderalla as one of her own!

Your Favorite Fairy Tale with a little Zest

I have read many versions of Cinderella and seen just about every movie with that plot (from Ever After to Ella Enchanted to A Cinderella Story), and it is, perhaps, the one fairy tale that never gets old for me, so I picked up Before Midnight with great hopes for it.

This retelling of the classic is a wonderful, zesty version of the well-known fairy tale, and the magic dispersed throughout it is delightful. Cendrillon is well-developed, and it is a nice twist on the original that some sympathy is created for the Stepmother and stepsisters, and, in coherence with the folk-tales, Cindrillon's father is still alive.

The only reason I've bumped it down to three stars is that the ending left me a bit disappointed. It felt a little too easy, and it was over too quickly. However, that taken into consideration, it's still a book I will read again sometime.

    Interesting characters!

It seems incredible that though Cinderella has been overdone, it never gets old. Easy to read, surprising twists and characters that even when missing development you can't help falling in love with them. Perfect length if you like quick books. Lots of typos, though! Do I recommend it? Yes! Have you ever wondered why the Stepmother was bitter or why Cinderella's father didn't do much to stop the bullying? Well... this has ven rethought... in a very clever, fresh, un-magical way :)

    A DELIGHTFUL READ

I REALLY ENJOYED READING THIS BOOK. IT WAS SO HARD FOR ME TO PUT IT DOWN. I LOVED HOW THEY MADE SEEM A LIL MORE REALISTIC W A FAIRY TALE TWIST. NOTHING LIKE THE DISNEY VERSION. WHICH I STILL LIKE BUT THE BOOK WAS JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER.

    Well

This book was okay, to say the least. I loved that the Step-Mother wasn't the evil one and the Dad was. Though I dis-liked the Step-Sister, Anastasia, when she first showed up, but then she got nice-ish and I stoped dis-liking her as much. Then there is Amelie, who I loved right from the start! Niccolo, was kinda strange, I didn't understand the whole, him being from-a-land-they-don't-speak-of thing, at first but whatever. Raoul, was strange too, I don't see how he fall in love with Anastasia, at all. Prince Pascal and Cendrillon falling in love at first sight was weird as well, because the Prince looks just like Raoul. It was an okay book, like I said but I could have lived without reading it.

    Excellent Read

I happened upon this book by chance and decided to read it. The main character is abandoned by her father at birth, because he thinks she caused her mother's death, and raised with another infant boy who her father drops at the castle shortly after her birth. Raised to be self reliant and resilant by her godmother she later comes into her own as well as her companion the boy. Both find what they need and want and resolve everything in the end.
