-- Now a USA TODAY Bestseller! --

Before that night, Addison Milan had been just a college dropout secretly raising her two young siblings in a beat-up minivan she'd bought with her first semester's tuition refund--the only money her addict mother hadn't taken off with when she'd abandoned them nearly two years ago.

Before that night, Caine Spencer had been just a rough, gruff cop sent to check out the phoned-in claims of suspected child neglect involving the same woman he'd met the month prior when she'd first served him the city's worst diner coffee...which he'd been drinking daily ever since.

Before that night, Addison would never have thought the man she'd been fighting hard not to fall for--her only friend in her new shadow of a life--would be in a position to rip her family apart.

Before that night, Caine would never have believed any woman could make him fall head over heels, let alone make him feel so damn compelled to look the other way when it came to his job.

Then that one perfect night changed everything.

"Hot, sweet, and filled with tender moments, Violet Duke writes heroes who make me swoon!" -- New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan

BEFORE THAT NIGHT (Bk 1 of 2) chronicles the events that take place seven years prior to EVERY NIGHT WITHOUT YOU (Bk 2 of 2), Caine & Addison's story of love, sacrifice, and the lengths one will run--and chase--when their past threatens their future.

Note: The Unfinished Love series follows four brothers, each fighting for their second first chance at love. Each of the couples have two books (duets) that take place years apart. This is Caine & Addison's Book 1; Book 2 reunites them seven years later, and concludes their story.

Four brothers. Each fighting for their second first chance at love. Years be damned.

Part of a good love story is when good things happen to those who deserve the bittersweet ending of Addison and Caine's story will have me watching for the release of the REAL ending in Every Night Without You.

Violet Duke is amazing. I can't wait for book two and see where this story goes. It does have a cliffhanger but Her writing is so amazing that even if there wasn't you would crave more. This is a sweet and heartfelt story. Love Cain and Addisen so much because they are both protective and strong willed

Excellent first book in the Unfinished Love series. Before that night is Book one of two books. Addison Milan is a college dropout that is raising her brother and sister since their mother abandoned them two years ago. Caine Spencer is a rough and touch police officer. The two meet at a diner where Addison serves him the worst coffee ever, but he continues to drink it! Addison and her brother Tanner, and sister Kylie are living in an ugly blue conversion van. They have made it their home. They have a place to sleep, a cooler to put in some food items. They go to the recreation center to shower, brush their teeth and use the facilities. Addison tkes the kids to school every morning. Addison is trying to save up money so that she can make sure that they will no longer have to live in the van. Caine comes to the diner on a daily basis and sits in the same spot. Caine volunteers at school and community events so that he can have some goodness back into his life. Addison also has a day job at Bernadette's. She is able to pick up the kids from school and take them to the park or do something fun with them until she had to go to work at the diner. She would get a booth for the kids to sit in and do their homework and eat dinner. She would "take the kids home" on her dinner break, but it was really just driving around while Tanner and Kylie are getting the mattress ready and getting the back of the van set up for the night. Caine has asked Tanner permission to ask Addison out on a date. Tanner has given his permission but Kylie did not. Kylie said that Caine had to take her and Tanner to the movies first. Caine wants to take the kids for the whole day so that Addison can sleep in and rest. He also gives her a certificate to get a massage while they are gone. Addison and Caine become closer every day. There is another regular at the diner, David, who likes to have Addison wait on him. He wants her to select his meals. He has asked numerous times if she would go out on a date with him. David knows Addison's secret. He knows her and the kids are sleeping in the van. What will she do? Will he ruin everything? Should she run? Grab a copy of the book and find the answers. This is another very well written book by Violet Duke. I have enjoyed all of her books.

Loved the book and the great characters and strong story line... Lots of emotions in this one and the only thing I don't like is having to wait for Book 2 for the conclusion... I also don't like that Book 2 is not available for pre-purchase... It is supposed to be out in less than a week but it will require notes in several places to remind me to go looking for it on release date...

There are very few authors that can bring me to tears, but I would highly recommend having a box of tissues standing by when you head the last chapter of About That Night. I cried when Harry Potter saw Dumbledore murdered, and I had tears running down my cheeks as I read that final chapter. The fortunate thing is that the story isn't over, this is just a cliffhanger and the finale is due to be released soon. Violet Duke has a magical touch; she creates characters so real, so personable, that you would really love to hang out with them. I absolutely love her books and give this my highest recommendation!

Anytime I think of Violet Duke, I picture this ball of positive energy with wings, a wand in one hand sprinkling pixie dust of romance and brandishing with the other a pen to write the most alluring and charismatic of love stories!!! And that brings us to her new “Unfinished Loved Series”, about four brothers who find love but lose only to get another chance down the years to reclaim it. It’s fresh, it’s new and it makes it even more emotional and romantic to wait for that HEA. First in the series, “Before That Night” has a young teenager Addison Millan trying to survive through sheer determination to take care of her younger siblings as they live in a beat up van. Having lost a roof and a mother to drugs, her abandonment only motivates Addison to create a better life. Always with a smile and a kind word, working as a waitress and a caretaker, she adds positivity and courage to her resume. Her immense strength and smile draws the gruff and tough cop Caine Spencer to the diner everyday and that everyday leads to conversations that turn into friendship and the flare of attraction that kindles between them is kept at bay given the circumstances. But all that changes instantly as Addison gets into the crosshairs of an obsessive diner, blackmailing her with the secret that she’s been hiding. And that one incident creates a domino effect of consequences even as Addison and Caine fall in love with each other. As her secret see the light of day, it comes down to final straw if Caine is going to go against the oath he had taken as a cop and support Addison. And is Addison brave enough to make the biggest decision of her young life…and if she goes with the choice she’s making, will her love survive…. for a second chance…. Another brilliant, captivating and an emotional love story, all Violet Duke style full of love and care, friendship and support, warmth and family. Can’t wait to read the second installment “Every Night Without You’ as Addison comes back into Caine’s life, the unanswered questions, sacrifice and the love that never died for seven long years! HONEST REVIEW FOR FREE ARC I wish I could post 4 1/2 stars because although this wasn't my favorite VD book, I still enjoyed it very much. Addison is a 20 year old woman mature beyond her years. She has raised her 1/2 brother and sister since they were infants. She is currently working 2 jobs and hoping to keep her little family together until her 21st birthday so she can get legal guardianship. Her heart is in the right place, but her methods aren't quite "legal". Caine is a policeman who is intrigued by Addison but knows she is too young for him. Their dynamics begin to change and their chemistry is flammable. They begin a mild flirtation at her place of employment where she waitresses and does bookwork. Things are heating up, but still there is a distance between them. Addison has an admirer who becomes dangerous. While setting up a "sting", Caine realizes he is in a tough place. Does he honor his pledge as an officer or the truth and endanger his relationship with Addison and the kids. Addison realizes she can't ask Caine to break his oath. Ms. Duke had written a to be continued story and I look forward to seeing what will happen next in Addison and Caine's story.

What a great beginning to a new series!!! Addison is raising her younger siblings on her own after their mom leaves and doing it in her van. When she gets a job at the local diner she meets Caine who's a cop. They're interested in each other but for different reasons are staying hands off. When Addison finds out she has a stalker who gives up her secrets will Caine stay by her side or do what his job says he should do? WOW! What a great story line with characters that you want more of. It's the start of their love story and the story could be that of anyone around you. This story does have a cliffhanger and OMG what a cliffhanger! I can't wait to find out what happens next! A definite must read for anyone who loves a great story!

Violet Duke gets me everytime with her wonderful stories and this one is no exception. She tugs on your heart strings, makes you empathize and sympathize with Addison. How can you not love Addison?!? The beautiful young girl who devotes everything to her younger siblings. The three of them form such a super tight knit family unit, it really is very heartwarming. Add in the unique friendship turn love situation between Caine and Addison and you have pure magic. I so enjoyed their every conversation. And the last two chapters were bittersweet. Now I am (im)patiently waiting for the second book for Caine and Addison. I cannot wait to see how the magic will all turn out. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the author.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!! I can't wait almost a month for the conclusion of this incredible story! Cruel Ms. Duke, very very cruel. What an incredible story of love, determination, and sacrifice this is. Addison is a young woman who has had responsibility thrust upon her at a very early age. Providing and caring for her younger siblings is the only thing she has time for in her life. And secrets. She must keep her secrets to keep them safe, so when the very handsome police officer Caine Spencer starts spending more and more time at the diner where Addison works she knows she has to be careful. The two quickly grow close though and when her secrets are revealed he promises her everything. But at what cost?? You don't want to miss this one! I highly recommend it.

I just finished Violet Duke's latest novel and I'm totally smitten with the characters!! You have to root for Caine and Addison to get together they are so perfect for each other. The story is written so well that you can almost feel the struggles that Addison had gone through. There are intriguing subplots that keep you waiting for the next shoe to drop. From a neglectful mother to a psycho stalker. I will tell you it has a cliffhanger ending but thankfully we won't have to wait too long for the conclusion of their story. It's supposed to be out next month and I CAN'T WAIT!!

Violet Duke has done it again. Addison and Caine's story will have you laughing and cryjng. I know ultimately they will end up together. Getting there is the story. Violet knows how to tell a story that keeps you involved, interested and engaged. You really get wrapped up in the characters feeling their emotions and want only the best for them. I highly recommend this story and please read the other series. They're great and gives you prior insight into some of the characters.
