This paranormal romance is an intriguing and entertaining read.
Determined to never be a victim again after being attacked four years ago, Tegan Ashton devotes her life to martial arts and self-defense.  When her assailant returns to finish what he started only one man can help her.  A private investigator by day and demon slayer by night, Gabe vows to defend people from the threat they don’t realize exists.  Their relationship is supposed to be strictly business, but demon slaying stirs up emotions they never expected.
This fast paced plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of action and suspense. The author brings the story to life with vivid imagery, intriguing concept and enchanting characters.  The suspense builds as the author keeps the reader guessing with some surprises and kick butt action as the demon slaying characters fight to stop the demon from getting what he wants.
The chemistry between Tegan and Gabe radiates heat from every page and the author gives their charismatic personalities life with intense details and emotions. The heroine had a traumatic past that grabs the reader’s emotions immediately and how she has evolved personally is not only heartwarming but inspiring.
The author has created an intriguing and exciting demon slaying world with some unique elements that captures the reader’s imagination and leaves them wanting to know more.  The well written battle scenes pump up the adrenalin and have the reader cheering the good guys on.  While there is some disgusting and slimy imagery when killing the demons, this in no way hurts this fascinating story it just gives the reader satisfaction as they picture the death of the demons and good overcoming evil.  I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Tegan Ashton fought to regain control of her life. She was attacked four years ago and escaped with physical and emotional scars. She worked heard to recover. She is no victim. She is a black belt and has opened her own dojo. When her attacker returns, Tegan hires a PI Gabriel Smith. Is she in for a surprise! Gabe is a paranormal investigator and a demon slayer. She discovers that she is being hunted by Hingo Demon. Can these two work together to stop this evil? Lisa Kessler's wonderful storytelling pulled me in from page one. Tegan and Gabe are strong characters who have suffered unimaginable loss and fought to take back their lives. The attraction they feel is very hot yet very sweet. They are protective and caring. They have each others' back. The action is non-stop in this well plotted story. If you want a steamy romance with plenty of suspense and many surprising twists, this is the book for you.

***Received from Entangled Publishing for an honest review***

Tegan's grit and Gabe's determination are lethal weapons on their own. Combined, this pair is unstoppable.

What I loved is Ms. Kessler didn't keep Tegan as a victim. The attack that stole years from Tegan's life was never downplayed. It was, instead, a constant reminder and testament throughout the story to Tegan's strength and refusal to lie down and quit. Even when the going got tough, she stayed in the fight, learned how to hold her own against demons, and emerged a woman stronger than ever.

Gabe's reluctance to involve Tegan in demon fights is understandable, but it's nothing compared to the awe and admiration that shines through the pages when he sees her hold her own. His world doesn't frighten her. His purpose in life doesn't chase her away. And I applaud him for accepting her acceptance of what he does.

Ms. Kessler has written a spectacular supernatural novel that drags the reader into a world that exists but many are unaware of while maintaining a firm grasp on the reason for Tegan and Gabe's hunt. The twists and turns throughout the story are as intriguing as their relationship, and everything comes together to create an ending that befits this slayer and his sensei.

A deliciously dark little stand alone novella from Lisa which I

A deliciously dark little stand alone novella from Lisa which I absolutely loved! I'd love to read more set in this world.

Tegan survived a brutal attack which has haunted her ever since, she has learned to keep quiet about her experience as she knows telling the truth just makes her look insane. However, when her attacker resurfaces she knows she will need help to get to the bottom of what is going on once and for all. Hiring Gabe seems like the perfect solution, his advert says he is a Private Investigator who specializes in the paranormal, she doesn't have anything to lose. Gabe uses his day job as a PI to build contacts and leads to aid him in his destiny as a Demon Slayer. Working closely together proves to be a test of wills, we have two very stubborn personalities and as they get to know one each other the sparks really begin to fly. The case proves to have a little more to it than they initially thought and they get further pulled into a world where prophecies exist, myths have basis in facts and family bloodlines have great importance.

It's hard to say which part I enjoyed more - the mythology or the characters themselves. The origins of the Demons and slayers was fascinating and the emotion and tension between Tegan and Gabe was palpable and I was firmly in their corner. This was a thoroughly enjoyable tale that I could re-read time and time again!

    4.5 Stars – A fast-paced, suspenseful, emotion-packed ride!

Tegan Ashton suffered an attack four years ago and her assailant has never been found. She has tried to rebuild her life, learning martial arts and self-defense skills to be able to protect herself, even opening her own dojo, but her emotional scars have never healed. After spotting her attacker while watching the beach on a local motel’s webcam, she decides to hire a PI to help her find him and help bring closure to her attack.

Gabriel V.H. Smith, Licensed PI and paranormal investigator, is not your average private investigator – because of his Van Helsing (V.H.) bloodline, he is also a Demon Slayer. Gabe is also haunted by tragic events of his past, having witnessed everyone that he has cared about fall victims to the demons that he hunts.

When Tegan hires Gabe to help her find her attacker, he immediately recognizes that the scar she has is actually from a demon bite, and he knows he has to help her. He also can’t help the attraction that he feels for her, which only grows as he gets to know her and sees her inner strength.
“He’d never met a woman like Tegan Ashton. She had moxie. She also had lips that drove him to distraction, not to mention those dark-brown eyes shadowed with wounds no one should have to carry, and so much fight and courage that it twisted his gut.”
But he knows he cannot risk caring for Tegan since history has proven that if he does, it will only result in her getting hurt.

Although she too feels the attraction toward Gabe, she is still too emotionally scarred to act on it. The more time she spends with Gabe though, the more he helps her begin to heal.
“You told me you weren’t a victim… Don’t let that attack hold you back from living.”

When the history of Tegan’s own bloodline is brought to light, Gabe and Tegan must work together to unravel the mysteries and stop the demon who has targeted Tegan, all while trying to manage the attraction that is growing between them.

I really enjoyed this story and the lore that surrounded the demons. With so many books being written about vampires and shifters (which I do love!), it was refreshing to read a story with a different paranormal creature in the starring role – especially one that was the bad guy and really had no redeeming qualities! Tegan was totally kick-ass, using all her martial arts skills to be able to fight side by side with Gabe. I loved watching her begin the emotional healing process throughout the story, drawing on the strength and support from Gabe, but also finding her inner strength. Gabe was such an alpha-male, but when it comes to Tegan he is so supportive and caring. He has his own emotional demons to slay, and I found it refreshing that he put his emotions out there for Tegan and didn’t keep them bottled up or try to protect her. I also loved Tegan’s father – although he didn’t have a huge role in the story, his character was integral to the plot and he was quite colorful.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful story with some heat and romance. Kudos to Lisa Kessler for creating such a great story that takes you along for a fast-paced, suspenseful, emotion-packed ride!

I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Reading by the Book Arc review done by Tanisha Harris

Talk about gripping from start to finish. Beg Me to Slay by Lisa Kessler covers a lot of ground. First there is a crime being witnessed via webcam that turns out to be a deadly realization for Tegan Ashton. She sees the man or thing that had attacked her in her past. When she calls about to alert the authorities, they go to investigate and come up with nothing. The body has vanished. Fearing for her sanity she enlists the help of a private investigator who is more than. Soon she finds herself fighting demons, yes real live demons and even befriending a few. What starts out as a coincidence quickly turns into an ages long fight between good and evil that has Tegan smack dab in the middle. Can her P.I. in the form of Gabe Smith help her slay dragons and keep the world order in tact? Only time will tell but they must act fast. This book was a supernatural joyride. The characters had their personalities and either you loved them or hated them. Tegan was bull-headed and continually rushing into danger and Gabe was performing his birthright task of ridding the world of demons. Alliances and double crosses makes this novel a hit. 4.5 stars goes to Beg Me to Slay.

A few months back I had received an ARC of Lisa Kessler's Moonlight, and ever since I will read anything she puts out. Lisa and author RL Mathewson are the whole reason I now read books in the paranormal genre. Needless to say when I was offered an ARC of Beg Me To Slay, I jumped at the chance. I love, love, love the fact that she writes strong heroines. Most romances, whether contemporary, paranormal, whatever, have whiny weak heroines. It's so nice to read something different. Yes, Tegan has issues, but she doesn't sit around crying. I loved that she refused to be a victim, but also was smart enough to look for help when she needed it. I loved that she wasn't content to sit around while someone else fought her battles, she joined right in.

Tegan, while at college, was attacked one night after meeting someone in a bar. She barely escaped, but when she did she was left with one physical scar and many emotional scars. She decided to not be a victim ever again, and became a black belt. She's turned that into a business and opened a dojo, but also does some at home data entry to help pay the bills. While working one night, she witnesses an attack on a web cam of her favorite beach. She recognizes the attacker.

Gabe, a P.I., who also specializes in paranormal investigation, meets with a possible new client (Tegan), and immediately recognizes the physical scar she bares from the attack. He, unlike the police, believe her. He realizes she's in danger, and as a slayer, it's his job to protect her.

    AWESOME!!!!

for Read Your Writes Book Reviews

The book description really does sum Beg Me to Slay up nicely. This was my first Lisa Kessler book and I was NOT disappointed. It's taken me a long time to embrace paranormal books because I have to suspend my reality. Everything about this book was believable. Lisa has managed to give you characters that you can visualize and a storyline that could be real.

Beg Me to Slay gives you romance, suspense, and a kick-ass hero and heroine, who refuses to be a victim any longer. Gabe and Tegan meet each other through a mixture of fate and destiny. What transpires between these two is simply magical.

Four years ago while living in Los Angeles, Tegan Ashton was attacked by a Hingo Demon and managed to survive. Now living in San Diego, she catches a glimpse of her attacker on a webcam burying a body. When the police refuse to believe her or help, she turns to the one person who she hopes will do both, Gabriel V.H. Smith a private investigator and demon slayer.

With the Hingo demon sending several other demons to get Gabe out of the picture, the question becomes why did Tegan survive the attack, when others don’t and what does her father’s family legacy have to do with it? Just when you think you have everything figured out and that these two are going to defeat the demons and finally find happiness, think again. One decision can lead to a tragic result but that one decision could be the one that saves the world.

Beg Me to Slay will suck you in from the very beginning and will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

    A 5 STAR PANTY-MELTER!

Tegan was attacked and bitten years ago.  When she tried to explain to the authorities what had happened, they thought she was crazy.  Tegan has relocated and tried to move on with her life pretending that everything is ok, but when she recognizes the killer of another woman on a beach near her home as her own attacker, she knew her assailant had followed her and that she had to seek help and closure.  She started interviewing private investigators and just when she was fixing to give up finding anyone to believe her, she discovers Gabe, who is a PI specializing in the paranormal.  But... being attracted to him wasn't part of her plan.

OMG... I LOVED Gabe!  He has made the best out of the rough life he has been dealt.  He's SEXY, loyal, supportive-to-a-fault, mentally and physically strong and just look at his delicious abs on this book's can't-ignore cover!  Gabe is an awesome tortured hero!

The chemistry between Gabe and Tegan is electric.  Tegan is a black belt kick-ass heroine who understandably has trouble dealing with emotional issues since her attack.    I loved the world Lisa Kessler has created with demons, demon slayers, witches, and paranormal folklore.  I even  became quite fond of Gabe's quirky demon friend.

If you enjoy a good paranormal read, pick this up!  You won't be sorry! Lisa Kessler writes the BEST stories and this one is excellent!

Another home run by Lisa Kessler! I love Tegan and Gabe individually, but when you put the two of them together, WOW. They are an awesome team! I love how, when faced with her first demon, Tegan just picks up a weapon and starts kicking butt, and she wasn't afraid to remind Gabe of it every chance she got! I do have to mention there was one part in here that did have a shock factor for me, and I am usually pretty good and guessing the shock factors before they happen. I don't want to give anything away though so I guess you will just have to read it for yourself and see if you get as shocked as I did. Definitely recommend this and all Lisa's books for that matter. Tegan is a young woman who has experienced an attack that has changed her life. She didn't understand exactly who it was that attacked her, and when she reported her attack she ended up being put in a mental hospital for it. After she was released she made it her mission to never be a victim again. Devoting her life to making herself as capable as possible to defend herself, she has pushed life to the back burner. When she sees her attacker again, she decides to hire a private investigator to help her make sense of her previous attack and maybe even a reason why she is seeing him again.

Gabe has a anguished past that haunts his present. He has lost everyone he has ever loved due to his calling. Now he has made himself a bit jaded in order to avoid going through that pain again. As a private investigator, he is often put in danger but even more so in his true calling. When Tegan brings him her case, he automatically is put on alert. He isn't sure why after all of these years he has the sudden urge to allow himself to care about another person, but something about Tegan's quiet strength makes her hard to resist.

While Gabe and Tegan explore a new world and new emotions, they find themselves in trouble more than not. The more Tegan's case reveals itself, the more the realize their pasts are intertwined. Fate has played a hand in both of their lives for the good and the bad to get them to this point. Will they take advantage of this opportunity to grab a hold of life again? To feel again? Or will the danger and their different worlds prove to be to much of an obstacle for them? Find out when you read this steamy and thrilling tale! ~AVC Proofreading ~Desiree

OH WOW!!!! Two thumbs up for Lisa Kessler, and if I more then two she would get them too for Beg Me To Slay!!! BMTS, was a very exciting and passionate story. I loved it!! I loved how strong her characters were specially Tegan. For what she had gone through and then to end up a strong, but still loving woman was written very well. And Gabe well that just goes without saying with the tender and loving man he was with her. There were times in this book that I laughed, times when I got mad, and if you have read this book you know the parts that I cried with. Lisa done a great job on writing this book and bringing all of her characters to life in it!!! I am really hoping that she might find a way to make Demon Slayers a series, but if she doesn't, at lease we had the pleasure of reading this one. I always look forward to anything Lisa writes, she just brings so much to her work. Great job Lisa!!! Keep it up!!!
    Happy reading and writing*

Destiny threw Tegan and Gabe together, and together they have each other’s back. The characters draw you in, the story keeps you engaged. This is one of those books that you don’t want to put down until you’re done, even at the cost of a book hangover the next morning.

First, this author is GREAT! I’ve read some things by her, and I SHOULD read them all LOL But even with a “short story” which I can’t really call a short story, but I can’t call a big novel, She still exceeds my expectations. I should know that I am always doomed for a wild ride, but sometimes I forget how fun her novels are. And this one was no exception. Enter a girl attacked, a slayer, some crazy demons, and really cute mom, and some ass-kicking, and we’re on our way to Magnificence.

Tegan-like Megan but with a T- was attacked 4 years ago, and no one would believe her if she told the truth about what she was attacked by, so she has kept that little secret to herself. And she’s made herself a survivor instead of a victim. And then her attacker comes back for her. The police don’t want to help, she’s trying to keep her parents out of it, and she’s desperate, so she gooles PIs. And BOOM, enter HAWT slayer. But, that’s too far. As a character, Tegan is strong, and willful, and most importantly, a survivor. She’s had to work hard for it. And though she sometimes lets her past ruin her future, she finally let’s some of that old grudge go, and then she blossoms into a great character that I loved!

Good LAWD, Gabe is something HAWT…. Like my paw’s homemade, from scratch, out of the over, home grown, pecan pie…. Like OMG. He’s the PI, who is also a slayer, who is also somewhat broken. And now, he’s hell bent on helping Tegan rid the world of this evil demon after her. He’s everything you want in a guy. He’s gorgeous, he’s kind, he’s thoughtful, he’s ass-kicking, he’s funny, and hot damn does he steam up a room. :) And he’s a good guy.

First, I loved that Tegan and Gabe both fought so hard to give in to each other. I kept saying “just make out already” and still they fought with themselves. AND THEN, finally, I got a big ole “YES”, for a sweet, romantic, kiss on the cheek. Of course, it only got better after, but it made it seem a little more real. Second, I love the plot. There’s a mystery surrounding WHY the demon wants Tegan so bad, and it’ll make you a little crazy. Not because Demons are just bad guys, but this one demon, who’s attacked her already, just won’t stop. But it’s a wonderful plot, with a mystery to keep you turning the pages, and a VERY steamy romance wrapped up inside. The writing is excellent. I know it’s not huge, but it’s larger than just a short story, and it was well done. I never put it down. Everything fell into their perfect puzzle piece place.

All in all, I need to get all of this authors works, and add it to my already owned. And then read them, ASAP. She’s great. I hope to see more of these characters soon. And with that, this story is summed up perfectly with a ASS KICKING, DEMON FIGHTING, SURVIVORS 5 PAWS! Yep, you should get yours hands on this one :)

Beg me to Slay is not my first book by Lisa Kessler, nor will it

Beg me to Slay is not my first book by Lisa Kessler, nor will it be my last. I loved Beg Me to Slay. This was a wonderful fun story, with a touch of witty humor and lots of action. Tegan is our heroine, and she is right from the start a tough kick assed one. 4 years ago she was attacked, and those scars remain. But Tegan spend the years making herself be able to defend herself against any kind of attack again, and she becomes a black belt. This also becomes her business running a martial arts school. She hires a private investigator, to help her find the man who attacked years before, after she saw him again from afar.

Enter Gabe, the private investigator, who is also a demon slayer. He immediately recognizes the scar that Tegan has from her attack, as that of a demon. He takes her case, and is determined to stay by her side every moment to protect her. Of course, Tegan (no her name is not Megan), doesn’t believe in demons, and isn’t too thrilled with Gabe following her every move. Her comments at times are hysterical, and I thoroughly enjoyed their banter. Needless to say, it doesn’t take Tegan long to learn there really are demons in this world. But make no mistake, this is an exciting and action filled story, as Gabe and Tegan become awesome partners to find the attacker, slay demons, and try discover how to stop a demon war on the horizon.

But most importantly, the romance that built between Gabe and Tegan was awesome. Both having their own issues to fight; hers getting past her attack; and his have lost his fiancée to a demon attack. It was beautiful to watch them both fall hard for each other, and try to rise above their own demons.

It was an exciting story all the way through, and just when you thought it was over, another twist comes to knock you for a loop. I could not put this book down. Lisa Kessler has created a wonderful couple, who work so well as the warriors they are, not to mention how great they are together. I love the title of this book…Beg Me to Slay, but I will make a slight change. Please Lisa, I BEG YOU TO STAY with these super heroes. It would be so much fun to continue their storyline, as they battle demons together. I want more of Tegan and Gabe.

I recently discovered Lisa Kessler's books and have enjoyed ever

I recently discovered Lisa Kessler's books and have enjoyed everything that I have read so far. When I got the notification for BEG ME TO SLAY I had no doubt I would enjoy it and I wasn't disappointed.

When Tegan sees her attacker on video killing another woman she calls the police. They didn't believe her so she took things into her own hands and found a private investigator. Gabe is nothing like she thought he would be and neither of them know that their fates were tied together many years ago.

After Tegan survived her attack she pretty much vowed she would never be a victim again. After 4 years she is now a black belt and runs her own dojo. She knows how to protect herself and when Gabe insists on acting as her bodyguard she makes it clear to him that she can protect herself. Gabe isn't your normal PI, he also slays demons, and it doesn't hurt that he is super easy on the eyes. Both characters were pretty interesting on their own but together they really bring the story together. We find out that Tegan's family history might be the reason for her attack and her surviving all those years ago and we also watch as Gabe lets his walls downs and learns to care about someone again. The relationship is anything but smooth but watching them find themselves in each other was great.

BEG ME TO SLAY was suitably fast paced and filled with action like Kessler's other books. The world has plenty of unique points and there are even some great lessons stuck between the pages. My favorite character besides the couple? Tegan's Dad! I'm glad I read this and I'm positive you will be too.

Beg Me to Slay is a wonderful well-written paranormal romance be

Beg Me to Slay is a wonderful well-written paranormal romance between two individuals who could easily have been broken by the supernatural forces that have invaded their lives, but who choose to fight to reclaim their lives, and along the way find a love that can triumph over any demons who try to destroy them.

Tegan is a heroine I can admire. She has worked hard to put her life back together after a strange attack four years ago shattered her sense of reality and left her not only physically scarred but questioning her sanity as well.  Instead of giving in to the fear that could easily have consumed and paralyzed her, Tegan refuses to be victimized ever again by earning a black belt in Karate and opening a dojo. Although she’s come a long way in healing, it isn’t until she meets PI/paranormal investigator Gabriel “Gabe” Smith that she realizes she still hasn’t been fully living her life.  Their paths cross after she unexpectedly discovers that her attacker, the strange man with the glowing eyes and pointy teeth, is nearby. I like that Tegan goes on the offense by hiring Gabe to find this man before he can come after her again.  Over the course of the book, she proves not only to herself but to those around her how strong she can be, and watching her face her “demons” head on is inspiring. Tegan is a real “kick ass” heroine with the skills and confidence to face the oncoming perilous situations headed her way.

Gabriel is a multi-faceted character and one of the few able to get past Tegan’s emotional defenses and sometimes prickly nature with his charm and teasing personality, and he is able to bring out the playful side of Tegan that she thought long gone. It also doesn’t hurt that Gabe is easy on the eyes. This handsome demon slayer has super fighting capabilities, unusual healing abilities, and the experience to survive in the hidden world of demons living in the human realm.

After Gabe takes one look at Tegan’s scar, he realizes she was bitten by a demon and, somehow, miraculously survived her attack. However, he also knows this demon will continue to search for her and is determined to protect her at all costs. He finds Tegan attractive, intriguing, and watching her in fight mode is a big turn on for him as well. However, Gabe is carrying around his own emotional baggage and experience has taught him not to get close to others or their safety will be jeopardized. Despite how cautious both he and Tegan are in guarding their hearts, the sexual tension builds between them until they can no longer resist each other, and what starts out as a business partnership gradually evolves into so much more than either ever expected.  Kessler has just the right amount of sexual tension that isn’t dragged out for too long, and she writes some seductive love scenes that aren’t overly graphic.

The novel’s plot is creative, well-executed, unpredictable in many of its aspects, and contains some incredible surprises. I appreciate how Kessler ties together all the story threads so effectively.  Gabe and Tegan face one mounting conflict after another and the drama never stops. If you enjoy paranormal romances, I encourage you to check out Beg Me to Slay which is an engrossing read all the way to the end.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review.
