Editorial Reviews
From The Critics
Reviewer: Stacey Warren, PhD(University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)Description: This book is a collection of reviews of topics in behavioral neurology and cognitive neuropsychology written by leaders in the field. It includes basic background and historical information along with discussions of current issues, theories, and findings in these areas.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide, for both clinicians and researchers, a source of current and timely reviews of important topics in behavioral neurology and cognitive neuropsychology. It is also intended as an introduction to the major methods, theories, and findings in these fields that is accessible to persons working in related areas.
Audience: This book was written for both clinicians and researchers and is targeted to persons working in the cognitive or neurological sciences. It is at a level that is accessible to students, residents, postdocs, practitioners and well established scientists. It is appropriate for persons in cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, neuropsychology, neurology or a related field. The editors and authors are leading authorities in these areas.
Features: The book is well illustrated, providing beautiful examples of brains from a variety of sources (PET, MRI, and histological preparations of tissue samples). This is an excellent feature.
Assessment: This book is excellent. It is well written and precisely, yet thoroughly, and covers the major areas of behavioral neurology, clinical neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. The editors and authors were successful in providing a resource of information for a wide range of fields in the neurological sciences. It would be a good purchase for the individual (good resource book) or a library, and it would be an excellent textbook for a behavioral neuroscience/neurology or neuropsychology course (good purchase for a bookstore).

Written as a complement to Adams' and Victor's "Principles of Neurology", to facilitate communication between the two fields announced in the title, whose theories, methods, and terminology differ despite largely common goals. Sixty-seven contributed chapters are grouped in sections on general principles; aphasia and other dominant hemisphere syndromes; disorders of perception, attention, and awareness; frontal, callosal, and subcortical syndromes; memory and amnesia; dementia and delirium; epilepsy and related issues; emotional disorders; and neurobehavioral disorders in children.
