Overview

Surveillance expert Seth Mackey knows everything about the women his millionaire boss Victor Lazar toys with—and tosses aside. But Lazar's latest plaything, Raine Cameron, is different. Beautiful. Vulnerable. And innocent. Just looking at her triggers a white-hot passion Seth can barely control as night after night, he watches her on a dozen different video screens. Raine is pure temptation, but Seth can't slip up: he's convinced Lazar had his half-brother murdered. His secret investigation—and his life—are on the line. But then he finds out that Raine may be Lazar's next victim...

Raine knows she's being watched—but no one can see the secrets in her heart. She has reasons of her own to seek revenge on Victor Lazar, and she will, despite her fear—and the distracting presence of Seth Mackey. His fiercely masculine good looks and animal sensuality stir her most erotic fantasies when she's alone...and lead her to a bold plan. Offering her body to him, surrendering totally to his ruthless desire, might well push her beyond all emotional limits—and beyond fear itself.

    ~*TOTAL PERFECTION*~

This was my first time reading an erotic novel and let me tell you, because of Shannon McKenna...I AM HOOKED. Oh my goodness, how am i going to describe how i'm feeling right now??!?!?!?!? It took me two nights just to read a book almost 400 pages. It would've been one night, but after the first few love scenes, i got toooooooo hot to continue reading.

Well I'm not gonna sit here and write about the plot--this is not a book report--but just how i feel. First of all, that book was immensely saturated with very very hot erotic scenes....it wasn't raunchy, it wasn't corny or cheesy...it was INTENSE, HOT, ADDICTING, ORGASMIC :) and how McKenna describes each detail made me extremely captivated, very hot. None of the scenes were redundant, each scene were all different with different emotions attached to them...bondage, lots of oral, fantasy playing, and of course...intense love-making. This book drove me to the edge, making me want and long for moreeeee love scenes. Second, the story was PERFECT. Oh my goodness, it was sooo full of suspense that the whole time i was reading it, i felt like i was going to fall off the bed. Some parts, i felt like i was gonna punch the wall....other parts, i cried in anticipation of what was to happen next...other parts i smile with extreme happiness...i pretty much experienced every possible emotion there is!!!!!

ohhhhh Behind Closed Doors was soo good that the whole time i was reading, I imagined myself to be IN the story as one of the main characters, Raine Cameron. (Oh Seth Mackey, I'd die a happy girl if I were to have a guy like you...it's too bad you're fictional!)....Anyways hehee..my imagination went so wild that i could clearly see what was happening...it was as if i was watching a movie in my head, but better....oh man but the story all exploded in the end and i was left crying out of extreme happiness....all that tension throughout the story all exploded at the end which left me wanting for MOOOOOORE....the story was sooo good, i was disappointed with the ending...it seemed as if it wasn't enough, i wanted to read more and more.....oh my goodness, if you're a big fan of mystery, suspense, erotica, and romance....Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna is the book I totally recommend.. Trust me, after reading it, u'll see firsthand how i'm feeling right now :) :) But to warn you, make sure your heart is in good condition, because once u read, you're in for a turbulent ride.....

    Pleasantly Surprised

Having read a few customer reviews who indicated some of the intimate scenes were too violent I was skeptical if I'd like it. Sooo glad I didn't pass this one up. Lead male character was definitely an alpha male type - if you're into the (which I am) then you'll be fine with this read. The plot was interesting, the sex scenes just the right mix of being intense and totally believable. Yep, this one's a keeper - I can't wait to read more of Ms. McKenna's books. Hope her writing style is more of the same.

Plot lost in overdone sex scenes

I agree with some of the recent reviewers. The book had some potential with the storyline, but the author spent far too much time in graphic sex scenes. The relationship did seem stalker/brutal rather than exciting and loving. Relationship stories can include sex scenes, but these were excessive and unnecessary. The story got lost along the way. I doubt I will seek out other books from this author since reviewers indicate this is common in her books.

Same exact book as Extreme Danger - really really boring!!

It seems Shannon McKenna just writes the same book over and over. She changes a few characters; same storyline though and same exact plot. Big strong, overly well-endowed good guy meets gorgeous girl, endless sex scenes so overplayed it actually gets downright BORING. The hero ends up suspecting his beauty is a undercover badgirl, blah blah blah, then he finds out she's not and he prostrates himself before her and she forgives him, blah blah blah. I really was amazed at the exact same plot in both books. Horribly boring storylines. I will not read another of her books, I know some authors do replay the same characters in additional books but come on...at least change the stories.

    mixed reviews

I am a first time reader of this author. I thought the storyline was well written, and it would have been a much better story if not for all that violent and brutal sex.(which I thought "what's the point" where does it fit).I wanted to just get back to the story. All that brutality took away from the actual storyline. Another thing was that Seth came off like a brute and an emotional abuser. I sometimes felt that he was raping Raine emotionally and phsycially. The amount of brutal sex in the story was a turn off for me. Hey I like sex as much as the next person, but this was too much. I would like to know who goes at it like that...I know its fiction..but come on now... be more realisic in the sexual department. At times I just wanted to delete the book from my nook,if I had had the actual book I probably would have thrown it against the wall a couple of times. Two lost souls "believe me I get it". I also get that he never had any closeness to anyone (except his brother and Hank)in his entire life. So good feelings are a mystery to him. But, the only women I can think of that would put up with that kind of forcefulness and brutality in any relationship (especially one of only a day or two) is an abused one. I was proud when Raine walked away from Seth. I thought "finally a back bone", but then he came back and that was that. I think the author should have ended that relationship when Raine walked away. The Author should have continued the story in another one of her books, where Seth and Raine get together by chance and he's worked thru all of his anger and control issues. Together they find themselves in another mystery and this time Seth shows respect and control for the woman he "loves". THE END

On another note: I've decided to give the Author another chance, because as I said I did like the characters in Behind Closed Doors. So after reading the preview I purchased: Standing in the Shawdows. I did like Connor and the McCloud brothers. smile.... and stay tune....

    First of Many

Well, I messed up in reading Shannon McKenna's books. But each book does stand on its own so it was not a problem. This story is about Raine. Raine's father was killed when she was a child and she is convinced that Lazar, her father's brother, killed him. She grew up a very passive child and has recently discovered a strong streak. She decided to go undercover at her uncle's company to find out all she can. However, what she discovers is an sexually charged draw to the new security tech Seth. However, Seth is convinced that she is Lazar's whore there to dish out sex to anyone Lazar tells her to.

This is a great story of Raine finding her courage to be what she truly is and Seth realizing a few things of his own. I loved this story and look forward to reading the next one: Conner's story.

Like it, but don't love i

The hero and heronie were a tad too much to be real. I must admit to skipping parts of this book and though I love a hot smoking sex sence, some of these went on for so long I thought the heroine might need medical treatment after. I liked him being alpha, I liked her being strong, but I think it might have been a better book if it wasn't so convuluted.

Good Story, Good character development, Graphic sex

The book was exciting and captivating in spite of the graphic sex which in my opinion was more than necessary. The story was good. THe character development was solid, and the witting kept my interest to the point I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. This book did not need the graphic sex and Shannon Mckenna is a much better writer than one who would have to use graphic sex to make his point. Like I've said, I enjoyed the book in spite of the sex. I hope to have an opportunity to read more without it.

    Too much brutal sex!!

A previous reviewer wanted to delete this from her Nook...well I am...all the sex scenes detracted from the plot...reading this author for the first time, I hope her other books are not so graphic and have more plot than sex!

RAINE AND SETH ARE AWSOME TOGETHER. THIS IS A MUST READ!

I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. Raine is determined and focused on her goal, but clueless as to how to do what she needs to do, until she gets into Seth's capable hands. He shows her how to be the woman she wants to be, and in turn she shows him how to trust and love. I really enjoyed the role play between them, but I wish Seth didn't have to be such a jerk all the time. In his defense he really did try above and beyond his usual blunt crassness, and was overall loveable. This is the first book of the series, so start here and if you like hot love scenes and blunt language, and dominate men then this is the series for you.

A witty, sexy, erotic love story weaved with intrigue

To Shannon I give a standing ovation. Fellow readers do not hestitate to BUY THIS BOOK. I love the humor infused in the story line. I loved the relationship between Raine and Seth. The whole caveman meets the princess thing resembled one of my own relationships. In fact, I laughed, cried, and rooted for the main characters. The characters captured my interest I read the book in 2 days. The language was NOT offensive rather it was appropriately genuine. I loved it. I loved that Raine had sex immediately 'cause she wanted to. No 'rules', games or pretense. When you know, you know. Authentic...touching...life changing---a must read. I ordered 8 more books by this author.

    Bought the book, but disappointed

I bought this book based on the reviews, but I found it to be disappointing. I think the beginning of the novel held the promise of an interesting plot with suspense. I just found that overall the novel was too long. The sex scenes were hot, but there were too many, which slowed down the plot. Plus, after Raine's identity is revealed, then it all gets predictable.

    outstanding

This book was great. The suspense kept me reading almost nonstop. You could defanently tell how much Raine loved Seth because he could be pretty mean at times, but she would still stay with him. I would defanently recommend this book to people!
