Overview

In a terrifying future world, four girls must depend on each other if they want to survive.

Louisa is nervous about being sent away to a boarding school -- but she’s excited, too. And she has her best friend, Maddie, to keep her company. The girls have to pretend to be twin sisters, which Louisa thinks just adds to the adventure!

Country Manor School isn’t all excitement, though. Louisa isn’t sure how she feels about her new roommates: athletic but snobby Rosie and everything’s-a-conspiracy Evelyn. Even Maddie seems different away from home, quiet and worried all the time.

Still, Louisa loves CMS -- the survival skills classes, the fresh air. She doesn’t even miss not having a TV, or the internet, or any contact with home. It’s for their own safety, after all.

Or is it?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In the first book in the Tomorrow Girls series, set in a future America rocked by natural disasters and war, 13-year-old Louisa is excited about leaving her Chicago home for boarding school—and freedom from the watchful eyes of her wealthy parents. She even has her best friend Maddie with her, disguised as her twin sister so they can stay together. Unfortunately, the Country Manor School turns out to be a remote school in an unknown location, cut off from phones, mail, TV, and the Internet, where the girls are stripped of all personal effects, the grounds are patrolled, and there's a strict curfew. Along with roommates Evelyn and Rosie, the girls know they need to find out the truth about why they've been brought there. Gray's solid writing will grab readers as she plunges her characters into an unsettling situation, and questions and discomfort build. Only Louisa's character gets much development, and the political background is a tad thin, but the three sequels (due throughout 2011) will likely address these minor drawbacks in an otherwise promising story. Ages 10up. (May)
Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
When life changes significantly in the United States, in the near future, due to natural disasters and an undefined war, parents send their children to boarding schools in the wilderness, hoping they will be in a safer environment. Thirteen-year-old Louisa is caught up in this transition when she is sent to an all-girls school, Country Manor. Louisa and her best friend Maddie pretend to be twins, and share a room with two other girls. There are enormous adjustments for Louisa and the other girls to make. Imagine the frustration of four thirteen-year-olds suddenly thrust into a world without any electronic devices? They must learn to cope in a world devoid of this technology. On a camping trip, they have to depend on each other for survival. Are the activities at this boarding school an adventure for the girls? Or are they at real risk in this government controlled society in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained? The reader will have to read the entire series to learn their fate. This dystopian novel is the first book of the "Tomorrow Girls" series which includes: Run for Cover, With the Enemy, and Set Me Free. Reviewer: Annie Laura Smith

Hey guys. The five stars i gave this are well deserved. Tomorrow Girls had me drawn in from the very beginning! I had much trouble stopping and currently on the second book. If youve read many other of my reviews you know im tough on judging books and may be surprised at my five star rating. But i absolutely loved this book.
