Overview

Molly Pink and her crochet group, the Tarzana Hookers, are thrilled when one of their own gets a shot at the spotlight—but Molly soon learns that life in the entertainment biz can be deadly…

The crochet group’s informal leader, actress CeeCee Collins, has a movie out, and she’s scheduled to appear on a famous talk show. Molly and the girls are excited to tag along, but when one of the Hookers is ejected from the audience for her excited behavior, she manages to drag Molly along with her.

It’s no fun being stuck in the waiting room, but things really unravel when a producer drinks a cup of coffee with poisoned sweetener. To make matters worse, CeeCee’s niece Nell—a production assistant on the show, is the one who served up the spiked drink. Molly and the Hookers must set aside their crochet projects to clear Nell’s name and find the killer—before someone else becomes the next Hollywood headline…

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Hilary Crew
In another Crochet Mysteries book, Molly Pink and her crochet group, the "Tarzana Hookers," become involved in a murder when CeeCee's niece, Nell, a production assistant on Barbara Overton's popular TV show, is under suspicion of poisoning her colleague, Robyn. Despite detective Heather Gilmore's conviction that Nell is guilty, Pink believes in her innocence. Enlisting the help of her lawyer friend, Mason, Pink follows neglected trails and discovers who sent the box of "Nature's Sweetie" from which Nell took a packet laced with cyanide for Robyn's coffee. In a plot incorporating false starts, another murder, and a narrow escape when Pink and a friend are left stranded on a high mountain in snow, Pink is finally able to unravel the mystery behind Robyn's life and death. The plot is fast moving and fun, but some episodes require a heavy suspension of disbelief. There is a colorful cast of adult characters, plus a teen boy with a minor role, but teens might relate to the rather tongue-in-cheek representation of the entertainment milieu of San Fernando Valley, California, in which the latest hit movie features a vampire depicted with a crochet hook in his mouth to "snag" his lovers. Mystery is served up with Pink's romantic relationships, detailed descriptions of the group's crochet projects and outfits, recipes, and crochet patterns in a frothy read complete with a cliff-hanger. Akin to the "yellow cake covered with whipped-cream icing" enjoyed by Pink, this light mystery might find some appeal among older teens. Reviewer: Hilary Crew
