Children's Literature
According to the news today, the world is falling apart. The environment is deteriorating. Violence among cultures is increasing. Human rights violations are getting more publicity. How is a young adult supposed to make sense of it all? A new series of reference books called "Global Citizenship" is trying to help kids do just that. The books are set up like a large brochure with color pictures and graphics, different types of text and sidebars and information boxes. This first book is an overview of the series and what being a citizen means. It introduces the series' guides: Allira, Harry, Lin and Denzel, four kids who pop up periodically and give readers ideas on how to apply the principles of citizenship in daily life. Most of the concepts in the book correspond to what is taught in a civics class and could help students better understand the issues. Overall, it is good beginning for the series. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 9 to 12.
