The music is beautiful in and of itself. All of the pieces are Italian in the Bel Canto (or beautiful singing) style. The pieces are written to show off the beautiful singing of the performer. And Elina Garanca performs naturally and beautifully. She has a smooth, pure tone and expresses the delicacies of the music with ease. The orchestras are also exquisite, as well as the sound quality of the recording. The information in the liner notes is interesting, but limited.
I used this CD in an Italian culture class to expose some opera to students who otherwise had not heard it. The music collection on this CD also represents an important time period in Italian music history. I have not found another like it and am very pleased with the performances.
