Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Others have falsely claimed to be the inspiration for Tom Booker in The Horse Whisperer. The one who truly inspired me was Buck Brannaman. His skill, understanding and his gentle, loving heart have parted the clouds for countless troubled creatures. Buck is the Zen master of the horse world."--Nicholas Evans, author of The Horse Whisperer

"There's a point in horsemanship when horse and horseman know enough about each other that a third thing, another dimension, begins to be part of the relationship. It's upon this element that the real ride takes place and in Believe we can see the markers along the journey."
--Tom McGuane

"Buck Brannaman is a remarkable person. Remarkable in that he can communicate on a variety of levels--with people as well as horses--all with one desire, to help free the spirit in everyone involved."--Jill Rappaport, Entertainment correspondent on NBC's "Today Show" and co-author of People We Know, Horses They Love

"Each of the 13 stories here offers a variation on the central lesson. One of the most engaging things is that these are not all wealthy horse people with great means at their disposal: often the people represented here simply enoy a long-standing love affair with horses and the pleassures they bring."--Santa Barbara News-Press

If you have a heart that beats, read this book!

I have read many books, most about horses. This is one of the best I've read. I make my living with horses. It's good to hear others wanting to give the horse a better deal. When you buy this book, buy a box a tissues.

    Inspiring

This book is outstanding when you are looking to learn about horses. However it is even more inspiring to read about the souls of the people that belong to those horses. Buck tells rivoting stories of his own life and shares very personal and troublesome issues as a child and how he has survived through his love of horses. I have given this book as a gift up to 10 times over the years. Anyone, not only the horsey type, can benefit from this book.

If you've got the horse, read the book.

Again, not a horse-training how-to manual. Buck (along with others) offer their experiences through the years with the horses they have worked. I've been around horses since the day I was born (32 years ago) and wasn't prepared for the emotional wreck of a horse I bought last year. Buck's books give more of an insight into the mind of the horse rather than a step-by-step tutorial of how to break them. His methods are more about working with the animal, not against it. With that said, most times you just need to understand the horse on an emotional level, and I think that's what Buck does. He teaches you to reach that horse on an emotional level and work with it rather than against it. If you can appreciate his words, you can learn how to work WITH your horse not just train him to do what you need. Worth the time to read.

    So good!

Read a second time. Needed the inspiration :-) I wish more people would read. Especially books like this. This guy is just great. Nicely written, full of life lessons and advice from a different yet so simple common sense approach. Its not just another horse book or even a horse book for that matter. Anyone can enjoy this book.
