I have read many books, most about horses. This is one of the best I've read. I make my living with horses. It's good to hear others wanting to give the horse a better deal. When you buy this book, buy a box a tissues.

Again, not a horse-training how-to manual. Buck (along with others) offer their experiences through the years with the horses they have worked. I've been around horses since the day I was born (32 years ago) and wasn't prepared for the emotional wreck of a horse I bought last year. Buck's books give more of an insight into the mind of the horse rather than a step-by-step tutorial of how to break them. His methods are more about working with the animal, not against it. With that said, most times you just need to understand the horse on an emotional level, and I think that's what Buck does. He teaches you to reach that horse on an emotional level and work with it rather than against it. If you can appreciate his words, you can learn how to work WITH your horse not just train him to do what you need. Worth the time to read.

This book is outstanding when you are looking to learn about horses. However it is even more inspiring to read about the souls of the people that belong to those horses. Buck tells rivoting stories of his own life and shares very personal and troublesome issues as a child and how he has survived through his love of horses. I have given this book as a gift up to 10 times over the years. Anyone, not only the horsey type, can benefit from this book.

Read a second time. Needed the inspiration :-) I wish more people would read. Especially books like this. This guy is just great. Nicely written, full of life lessons and advice from a different yet so simple common sense approach. Its not just another horse book or even a horse book for that matter. Anyone can enjoy this book.
