Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
A young child's attachment and love for a special toy is the delightful message in this board book. Bella takes her stuffed bunny everywhere and often in the scenes it is hard to tell if Bunny is a real creature or a toy—perhaps because, to Bella, Bunny is real! He sleeps in a basket next to Bella's bed. Bunny watches while Bella gets dressed (note the bunny slippers) and together they enjoy being outdoors—twirling, skipping and finally enjoying a picnic lunch. When the day is done and Bella goes to bed, she holds the paw of her stuffed bunny. While McPhail is a well-known, award winning illustrator, in this board book, Bella's head seems bigger and more adult than her body. A companion book is entitled Ben Loves Bear. The strong board book pages will hold up to multiple reads. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Kirkus Reviews
A young girl enjoys the company of her stuffed rabbit from sunup to sundown. This companion title to Ben Loves Bear (2013) follows a similar day-in-the-life format. In soft watercolor double-page spreads and smaller vignettes, Bella and Bunny do some gardening, enjoy a picnic and play the piano. McPhail uses simple, descriptive sentences to caption the art and includes bits of humor, such as Bunny's enjoyment of a slice of carrot cake and Bella's rough-and-tumble treatment of her friend. Probably due to issues of size and scale, some children may initially be confused as to whether Bunny is a stuffed animal or not, but Bella and Bunny's warm relationship will draw them in regardless. A lovely depiction of a first friendship. (Board book. 18 mos.-3)
