Children's LiteratureAbigail is a lucky third grader. Mr. Caruthers, her social studies teacher, is also an inventor and he has created a time-travel computer. Each time Abigail and her classmates, Zack, Roberto—"Bo," and Jacob meet for their after-school History Club, they are sent on another adventure back in time. Mr. Caruthers has a little black book of famous American inventors. This book contains a list of inventors that have given up on their dreams. Since their teacher is busy with another mysterious invention, Abigail and her friends must go back in time to help the inventors and convince them not to give up before they make their big discoveries. In this book, the kids meet up with Alexander Graham Bell and they must convince him not to give up on his "electric speech apparatus" as Professor Bell called the early telephone. The plot moves quickly and the illustrations are fun and nicely complement the text. This book is part of Aladdin's "Blast to the Past" series, which also includes Lincoln's Legacy, Disney's Dream, and King's Courage. 2005, Aladdin Paperback, Ages 7 to 10.
