    Nothing new

There's nothing new here. The bending of the rules isn't new techniques in sewing, it's simply adding embellishments to what you've sewn (i.e. painting, stamping, ect.) Cute projects but no special techniques. Half the book is a basics overview and nothing you can't get in a good reference book. Thankfully, I checked this out of the library before spending my money.

    Cute projects

I purchased this book soon after I purchased my sewing machine, because it seemed like there were some simple projects in this book. There are some very cute projects and I look forward to trying some of them once I get a little more experienced.
I made the pouch shown on the cover and that went very well. The instructions were a little tricky, but that could be because I am not yet used to sewing terms and language.

    Book needs serious editing

They are major typos in this book. The basic tote bag calls for straps 8 inches long by 13 inches wide! There are other measurement typos throughout the book, and the directions aren't always clear about right and wrong sides of fabric. Plus there are not always clear pictures of the completely project. For one of the pillowcase projects, the directions make no sense because I cannot see the back of the completed pillow that is pictured. This book is not for a beginner sewer unless you have been exposed to sewing. The only reason I could make sense of the not great directions is because I am a member of craftster and frequent the sewing forum where there are many tutorials and discussions about sewing.

    A great book, great projects!

I really liked the style of this book, and the projects included! It's written with a friendly, down-to-earth, almost conversational voice. The projects are really cute, too! (My favorite is the clutch bag, as seen on the cover.) There are about 10 projects geared toward gifts for children - unfortunately, I don't have kids and none of my friends do either, so I was less interested in those (but they are very cute!). None of the projects seemed overwhelming!
