Overview

Three thousand years after a chunk of iron the size of Khufu's pyramid collides with Europa, Jupiter's sixth moon, an asteroid borne of the collision crashes into Earth's Arctic ice shelf carrying extraterrestrial microbial life. The first man to come into contact with the microbes hears voices-and then dies.

After determining the meteorite originated from Europa, the Global Exploratory Corporation sends oceanographer and biologist, Kathy Connelly, and her crew to the moon aboard the Surveyor, an experimental spacecraft. They are charged with the task of melting through miles of ice to the hidden ocean beneath, where the search for alien microorganisms begins. But a startling discovery awaits them on the surface of Europa.

Life.

Vast fields of red, plant-like organisms fill the cracks crisscrossing the moon's surface, surviving on nutrients welling up from the waters below. Intoxicated by thoughts of what might lie beneath, Connelly and her crew activate the Thermal Exploratory System and melt through the ice-toward a world that does not want to be found, toward a force that will do anything to make sure they never leave.

They search for life. They find death.

After reading several of Mr. Robinson's books dealing with the Chest Team, I'm hooked and I can't wait to see the next adventure that they go on. I find his writing easy to read and not bogged down with tech stuff. The detail is wonderful and you feel like you are in the action.

I was a bit skeptical of a Sci-Fi book done by Mr. Robinson, as I am an avid reader and fan of his mythological work. I can tell you, honestly, that I was not disappointed! This is a fantastic read that really picks up in action about halfway through. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in terrestrial and extra-terrestrial exploration. I love how Jeremy uses a knowledge of current technology and adapts it for the future. Well written and captivating.

You've got to love Jeremy Robinson - his imagination and gift for putting it all down on a page takes you through adventure after adventure! This book was no exception. While some may consider this Science Fiction, I find it fits right up there with the likes of Cussler, Rollins, Crichton, and Preston/Child, to name a few. It's an action-packed adventure full of twists and turns - and just happens to take place on Europa (one of Jupiter's moons). You don't have to be a Science Fiction fan to enjoy this book...you'll only want to read his next one!

When a fragment of Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, lands on earth and is discovered in the Arctic, a team of geologists happens to be nearby and investigates it. One of their members dies after inhaling some microbial dust particles found on the meteor fragment. So a team is put together to travel to Europa and see what is there. The year is 2021, and of course there are quite a few scientific advances like a spaceship that travels so fast it only takes three months to get to Europa; special PMS spacesuits that are impenetrable, etc., and do make the story more interesting. The rest of the story plays out nicely, which kept me turning pages through the night. The one thing that really aggravated me, and kept me from giving this five stars, is that there are so many blatant spelling/syntax errors in the book that it kept detracting from my reading enjoyment. There is an error about every other page. It is VERY obvious that this book was not proofread or edited, and that is a real shame. But in the end, I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to others, with the caveat that there are writing errors galore. I read the NOOKbook version of this.
