Beneath a Prairie Sky
My heart thumped in my chest. Fear coursed through me...it was not a rope, but a snake. A rattlesnake.

For twelve year-old pioneer Claire McKay, leaving her grandparents and the world she knows to settle with her family near the Niobrara River in northern Nebraska seemed like a grand adventure. Soon, however, the reality of hard work, dust, isolation, and miles of endless prairie turns her new life into a struggle for survival. But with the love of her family, and the friendship of a shy neighbor boy, Claire finds the strength to cope with the trials of creating a new life on the Nebraska frontier.
Based on true events, Miller's novel vividly recounts the challenges faced by those brave pioneers as they tamed the wild Nebraska prairie and made a life for themselves.

About The Author
Scott E. Miller lives in Grand Island, Nebraska. A retired middle school language arts teacher, one of his many interests is that of Nebraska history. A goal of his is to bring Nebraska's past to students of all ages. His young adult novels, Beneath a Prairie Sky, Beyond the Prairie Sunset and Jounery to Morning, are set in Nebraska's past. He's also published a number of Nebraska themed picture books for younger readers. His stand along novel, Star: A First Dog Story is a fictionalized account of how man and dogs became life long companions.

When not writing, Scott volunteers his time with the local fine arts community, traveling, working in his ever expanding garden and spending time with his family. He lives with his wife Julie, an award winning published author with Harlequin, Inc, and their two part poodle mixes who "supervise" their writing.
