Beneath My Wheels

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David McGee
The first cut on Kevin Welch's BENEATH MY WHEELS, "Everybody's Gotta Walk," is a cautionary, Emersonian treatise promoting the notion that no one gets a free ride in life, even if you have "angel wings." Ultimately each one of us must account for our own choices and roads not taken -- and Welch has always been one to own up to his mistakes and take his licks, especially from women. Self-sufficiency and vulnerability live side by side in his penetrating tales of lovers and others at large in America, but it's hard to believe Welch is singing about anyone but himself when he lets his robust baritone loose on the tender, pleading "Anne Lise Please," or when he's beseeching ...

Self-sufficiency and vulnerability live side by side in his penetrating tales of lovers and others at large in America, but it's hard to believe Welch is singing about anyone but himself when he lets his robust baritone loose on the tender, pleading "Anne Lise Please," or when he's beseeching his lover to believe in him one more time on the roiling, ethereal plea, "Fold Your Wings." This album's a little bit country, a little bit folk, and, with Mike Henderson adding some stinging lead guitar to the proceedings, a little bit rock 'n' roll. It's deep and it's beautiful, too. Like Kevin Welch and the inner topography he explores so courageously.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Kevin Welch's fourth album, Beneath My Wheels features more of the expansive songwriting for which he has become known in alt country and folk circles. Tracks like "Everybody's Gotta Walk" and "Full Moon over Christiania" weave folk, country and rock together, telling compelling stories of love and life.
