Overview

The NOOKbook Version of this very special book contains 90 minutes of embedded video with Joe Camp and Benji demonstrating every lesson in the book! Just touch a link and watch!

Written by Joe Camp, the writer and director of all five Benji movies and all of Benji’s television programs, The Benji Method is a non-regulation training book that dispels the notion that training your dog must be difficult, or must be done by an expert, or that you need a PhD in animal psychology to even try. It's fun to read and fun to work with, and captures the spirit of how movie training with Benji is approached with exercises readers can truly enjoy with their dog. Joe Camp says training your dog is simply a matter of love and logic. And true communication. And the purpose of this book is to convince dog owners to feel comfortable with this concept so they can have terrific communication with their dog throughout his or her life; without a bunch of experts telling them that they must do it their way or the relationship is doomed. More importantly your dog will rapidly begin to understand the process, and then virtually anything is possible. She will understand that when you speak to her it has meaning and she will be stretching to grasp that meaning, and to apply it. It’s all common sense and compassion. And it’s really that simple.

Helen Dennis, new puppy owner in the UK, writes: “Our very own Benji arrived last week and we are having a great time with her. I am eternally grateful for Joe's teaching. She is doing so well. I love the way Joe explained the vocabulary concept. We have worked hard on Sit and Stay and she has already “got it.” She loves her crate and all of her toileting since day 2 has happened in the garden. Thank you so much Joe for all your help. It’s superb.”

If you want your dog to understand you and your wishes better, be controllable, and be a lot happier because he or she has a defined way to please you, you must have this book.

For all ages.

PRAISE FOR THE WORKS OF JOE CAMP

“Joe Camp is a master storyteller.” - THE NEW YORK TIMES

"Joe Camp has a feel, a heart, a sense of perception that compels the reader to see the relationship between man and animal, between the physical and emotional forces that compete with each other to make life rewarding and motivating. Camp has become something of a master at telling us what can be learned from animals without making us realize we have been educated, and, that is, perhaps, the mark of a real teacher."
JACK L. KENNEDY for THE JOPLIN INDEPENDENT

“Joe Camp is a gifted storyteller and the results are magical. Joe entertains, educates and empowers, baring his own soul while articulating keystone principles of a modern revolution in horsemanship.”
RICK LAMB, Author and TV/Radio host “The Horse Show”

“Joe Camp is a natural when it comes to understanding how animals tick and a genius at telling us their story. The Soul of a Horse is a must-read for
those who love animals of any species.”
MONTY ROBERTS, Author of New York Times Best-seller
The Man Who Listens to Horses

“One cannot help but be touched by Camp’s love and sympathy for
animals and by his eloquence on the subject.”
MICHAEL KORDA, The Washington Post

Meet the Author

The National Best Selling author of The Soul of a Horse: Life
Lessons from the Herd has a new book about his journey
with his floppy-eared superstar Benji

Joe Camp, film writer, producer, director, author, passionate speaker, and the man behind the canine superstar Benji believes that anything is possible if you work hard enough and have faith in yourself. He was told by industry "experts" not to bother with the original Benji film; that it wouldn't work. He proved the experts wrong and now, after five Benji movies, he's at it again with his latest career as an author. His recent best selling book The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd published in 2008 by the Harmony Books imprint of Random House is in its seventh printing and is changing the lives of horses and people all across the planet.

His recent book The Soul of a Horse Blogged - The Journey Continues picks up where The Soul of a Horse left off with the adoption of a pregnant mustang and continues through he and wife Kathleen's move from the dry rocky hillside pasture of southern California to the wet grassy hillsides of their new middle Tennessee home. This book is packed with inspiring new stories and compelling new discoveries. Plus an exclusive bonus preview of the first three chapters of Joe's upcoming book Born To Be Wild: The Soul of a Mustang - Riding the Winds of Change.

And now Joe has combined all he has learned from the world’s best dog trainer for movies and what he has learned from thirty five years of writing for and directing Benji in the movies into the simplest, easiest to understand dog teaching book ever. A book that will change your relationship with your pet forever.

Camp has written, produced and directed seven theatrical motion pictures (including all of the Benji movies) cumulatively grossing well over the equivalent of $600 million in today's dollars, making him one of the most successful independent filmmakers of all time.

Camp ignored industry "experts" who said the original Benji movie would never work. He raised the money from private sources to produce the film, but when completed the movie was turned down by every major film distributor in Hollywood. Camp and his partner Ed Vanston had to form their own distribution company and release the picture themselves worldwide from their offices in Dallas. In spite of the many obstacles, Variety reported that the film was the #3 grossing movie of the year.

    Simpler and More Effective

Over the years of writing and directing Benji movies and television programs I have been exposed to dozens of training concepts and methods and I have honestly never found any program as simple and effective as the methods of Frank Inn who trained the first two Benjis. His work is based on vocabulary, compassion, and relationship. It's simple and to the point and will give you a life-long way to communicate effectively with your dog. And the NOOK version contains 90 minutes of demonstration video with myself and Benji #3, star of the recent Benji Off the Leash. Just touch a link and watch. It's so cool :).
