Mit "Über das Marionettentheater" veröffentlichen wir den zweiten bekannteren Aufsatz aus den ästhetischen und philosophischen Schriften Kleists. Ebenso unterhaltsam wie tiefsinnig gibt Kleist den Dialog des Ich-Erzählers mit einem bekannten Tänzer seiner Zeit wieder, dessen Bewunderung für das Marionettentheater ihn zunächst sehr verwundert.

Die folgenden Betrachtungen über Natürlichkeit und Künstlichkeit, Geziertheit und Unschuld in der Kunst bleiben auch heute lesens- und hörenswert. Auch wenn wir heute vielleicht von Echtheit und Unechtheit sprechen würden, Kleists Überlegungen verführen auch heute noch zum mit- und nachdenken
