The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 360 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. We love the Berenstain Bears at our house because they teach life lessons. With Mama the steadfast leader and Papa and the cubs always encountering new situations, these are real life lessons that every kid must learn. And kids learn best when they are interested in such great characters as the Berenstain Bears. My 4 year old loves this book with its scary Space Grizzlies. Although it is a little long for him and his two year old brother, they both listen to the whole book. The book teaches kids what it means to have a nightmare and how when you wake up the dream is gone.
The stories are so "realistic" in terms of the kids' world. The series addresses real issues that kids and parents alike encounter every day. It is a reinforcement on values and life's lessons.
