Meet the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain were both born in 1923 in Philadelphia.  They didn't know each other as children, but met later at school, at the Philadelphia College of Art.  They liked each other right away, and found out that the both enjoyed the same kinds of books, plays, music and art.  During World War II, Stan was a medical assistant in the Army, and Jan worked in an airplane factory.  When the war was over, they got married and began to work together as artists and writers, primarily drawing cartoons for popular magazines.  After having their two sons Leo and Michael, the Berenstains decided to write some funny children's books that their children and other children could read and enjoy.  Their first published children's book was called The Big Honey Hunt.  It was about a family of bears, who later became known as the "Berenstain Bears."

Stan and Jan planned all of their books together. They both wrote the stories and created the pictures.  They continued to live outside of Philadelphia in the country.  There are now over 300 Berenstain Bears books.

This book lets children know in a way that they can understand how truly unacceptable bad behavior is.

This was good for my daughter who is, by not her own fault, spoiled. It helped quite a bit when we had to change some rules for her.

I read this book to my children and afterwards it was wonderful. If they starting wanting things in the store all I had to say was "Have you got the Gimmies?" They would remember the book and just smile. I recently purchased 5 of these books to read to my grandchildren. I took one of my granddaughers to the grocery store right after reading the book... In the distance we heard a child crying and she said "OOPS, somebody's got the gimmies" and we laughed. This book is an excellent tool to teach your children. I would highly recommend all of hte Berenstain Bears books.

We have read it a couple of times, my three year old gets up and walks around because it is a long story for him to sit through but he still listens. I love this series and how it deals with real life issues that all parents encounter - a must buy for parents

My 5 year old son loves this book. It's a good way to teach lessons that young minds don't always understand when Moms and Dads try to explain.

All parents have experienced taking kids to the store and hearing from them, 'I want this' and 'I want that.' This book is good for both kids and parents who go thru this daily and thensome. It also teaches kids that their parents sometimes can't afford this and that, and the book teaches respect for parents and what money they do have.
