Meet the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 360 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' love of reading has become one of the best-selling children's book series ever.

I bought this book for my 3-year-old daughter and we both love it. The moral of the story is about how we act when we win or lose and how it affects other people. Based on that behavior, people may or may not want to be around us when we do win or lose, i.e. No Girls Allowed.

It taught my 4 year old son how to be fair and how braging is bad and rude. It has a good moral, but it also taught him how to be sexist. "Janey, no giwls aloud in the twee house! Its my boys club like in bewistain beaws!" ( I got him to stop, though. :) get it for your younger children.)

I want to make it clear that this is not a review of the STORY. We love almost all the Berenstain Bear books. This is a review of the media itself. The images are tiny and not well formatted for the Nook screen, which was surprising. I even tried making the text smaller to see if that improved the experience. It did not. The text also contained a fairly egregious typo. This is NOT worth the money. You're better off waiting for OmMedia to bring out more of their excellent versions. Sadly, they only have two at the moment.
