Jack owes Michelle big time--she once saved his life. Michelle is pretty sure a biker named Lucky Avila had something to do with Jennifer’s disappearance. She also admits she did business with Lucky, who might be angry at her. Jack goes out to see Lucky, hoping for a simple end to the case. He should have known better. Anything in which Michelle Wu is involved is bound to be complex, dark, and wild. Soon Jack is up to his neck with bikers, Mexican gangs, and a giant pet wild Razorback hog named Ole Big, who may offer a major clue to finding the missing girl.

The Best Bad Dream is fast paced, tough, funny, hip, and filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Ward’s disappointing sequel to 2009’s Total Immunity, Los Angeles FBI agent Jack Harper has just started a two-week vacation. While attending a lacrosse game that his 15-year-old son, Kevin, is playing in at Culver City High, he receives a phone call from informant and love interest Michelle Wu. Michelle, who’s on holiday in Santa Fe, N.Mex., with her sister, Jennifer, is in a panic—Jennifer has disappeared and Michelle fears her sister’s been kidnapped. Will Jack come to the rescue? Since Michelle once saved his life, Jack can’t refuse. In New Mexico, he becomes entangled in a bizarre conspiracy involving biker gangs, sexual slavery, and a Santa Fe lodge specializing in rejuvenation therapies for the elderly. Meanwhile, back in L.A., Kevin runs into trouble. At points, the over-the-top characters and contrived action give the story an almost cartoonish feel. Fans of Ward’s Red Baker and Four Kinds of Rain may feel as if they’re in a bad dream. (Jan.)
The Dallas Morning News
“Ward presents all of this intrigue, mayhem, confusion and conclusions in spare, efficient prose and . . . a wry, matter-of-fact stance.”
The Dallas Morning News
From the Publisher

Praise for Robert Ward

"This is pure Robert Ward—smart, startling, a little wicked. The writing is perfect pitch and the characters feel like people you’ve met and known. Ward gets better and better with seeming effortlessness. A terrific read."-—T. Jefferson Parker, Edgar-winning author of The Border Lords

"Mr. Ward writes with a directness and sincerity that is increasingly rare in these days of fashionable irony and high-tech literary pyrotechnics."--Michiko Kakutani, New York Times

"Total Immunity is a tale of crime and consequences from the mind of a true master. Ward is simply one of the best, and this book proves it."--Michael Connelly, Edgar-winning author of The Reversal

"Veteran TV writer and producer Ward (Four Kinds of Rain) serves up a story line crackling with action and a cool cast of thugs, traitors, killers, and creeps."-–Booklist

"With memorable characters and rat-a-tat dialogue, Total Immunity is clever, funny and cool as ice. If you haven’t discovered Robert Ward, you should. Highly recommended."-–Alafair Burke, author of 212: A Novel

Library Journal
I agent Jack Harper, whose vacation is wrecked when snitch (and sometimes girlfriend) Michelle Wu asks him to come to Santa Fe and find her kidnapped sister. Unfortunately, his efforts land him in trouble with bikers, Mexican gangs, and a pet Razorback named Ole Big. A literate mystery

The Best Bad Dream by Robert Ward
    5 STARS
It was a little different the villians of the story. I guessed some right and a whole lot wrong. It kept me guessing and surprised me at the end.
Their were a lot of characters that I did not admire and a few I did, but they where all were different.
Michelle and Jennifer were out riding bikes to Taos Publeo. Jennifer was mad at her sister so she wanted to think and be alone for 20 minutes and would meet her sister at Keva. Michelle went into one of the rooms and smoked a joint and fell asleep so she was late to meet Jennifer. Jennifer had disappeared but the bike was still there.
Michelle did not want to call the cops because she was a criminal and had a relationship with Jack from FBI. So called him. Jack was on vacation but she saved his life once and used that.
Jennifer was a nurse at a senior spa in New Mexico. So Jack was asking questions their. Also Michelle had come to N.M. to see her sister and do some business with bike gang. Their is also another bike gang in the aera so lots of suspects.
So Jack calls his partner that is also on vacation and talks him to come help. With some grumbleing he does come.
Jack left his 15 year old home with his father why he was away and the new libarian seduced him and got him to do a lot of things.
Their were prostutes, drug dealers, robbers, business leaders,dr.and nurses saw and heard a lot of terrible things that are out their in the world. But did not put the book down till I was finshed.
I was given this ebook in exchange for honest review.
