Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"This supplement covers more than 2,600 recommended fiction and non-fiction titles for children in grades 6-9 that have been published since the first edition came out in 2004. Most have been recommended in at least two sources. The volume is organized thematically into 11 main categories (biography, the arts, history, and so on) which are then further divided and subdivided by topic (for example, sports figures, music, and ancient history). In addition to basic bibliographical information, entries contain review citations and brief annotations."

VOYA

VOYA - Kathie Fitch
This supplement is an annotated bibliography of books that will appeal to readers at the middle and junior high school grade levels, covering material published in the a twoyear period since the original volume (Libraries Unlimited, 2004/VOYA February 2005). Each selection has standard bibliographic information including ISBN number; grade level of interest broken into six through twelve, seven through twelve, and eighth through twelve; and the professional journal in which the title is reviewed. Titles are given entry numbers from 12816 rather than a Dewey classification, but there is a listing of major subjects arranged alphabetically in the front of the book. As a collection development tool, Wilson Junior High and Middle School Library Catalog is much more effective. A listing of books by title is included, which is helpfulbut one needs to know the exact title of the book to find its entry number, thereby locating its bibliographic and annotative information. An author index and subject/grade level index are found at the back of the book. There is a lot of information here, but it is difficult to navigate. As a supplement, this volume may be useful but it does not stand alone.
