Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
In case you are not familiar with the Weather fairies, opposing the title page there are pictures and the names of each fairy and to make recognition easier they have different color costumes and hair styles. Young readers, especially girls, will soon be familiar with them. They are playing with their best friend Alabaster a young unicorn. Alabaster is not really happy, because his parents have entered a contest to become the new pair selected to draw the royal coach. Their winning means that Alabaster has to leave his friends. He tries hiding but is quickly found and reassured by all that friends are forever and that they will indeed visit him at the royal palace. The message is not very subtle, but kids who may be experiencing a move can relate to Alabaster and only hope that they have friends as loyal as the Weather Fairies. The illustrations look as if they were computer generated and tend toward the cartoon style. Part of the "Rainbow Magic" series, a level 2 reader targeted for those who can handle new vocabulary and longer sentences. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
