Meet the Author

Richard Labonté is a book reviewer for PlanetOut.com and was the manager of A Different Light Bookstore for over 20 years. He has written for The Advocate, Los Angeles Weekly, San Francisco Review of Books, and Lambda Book Report. As editor of the new gay and lesbian book review Books to Watch Out For! and author of the syndicated book-review column Book Marks, Labonté remains hugely influential in gay bookselling. He lives in Ontario, Canada.

William J. Mann is the author of three novels, Where the Boys Are, The Biograph Girl, and The Men From the Boys, with a fourth, All-American Boy, to be published in spring 2005. In addition, he’s written several acclaimed studies of the Hollywood film industry: Wisecracker: The Life and Times of William Haines (for which he won a Lambda Literary Award), Behind the Screen: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood (named Book of the Year by InsightOut Books and one of the Top Five Books of 2001 by The Advocate), and Edge of Midnight: The Life of John Schlesinger. Mann got his start in fiction by writing erotica, winning a PDA Press Award from the late Scott O'Hara. He lives in Provincetown, MA.
