Meet the Author

Arizona author Vicki Lewis Thompson's natural element is heat. Her first publishing success while still in pigtails was a weather rhyme for the local newspaper: The sky is blue, but I am not. I love the sun, I love the hot.

Small wonder that some years later Vicki sold her first romance to Harlequin's steamy Temptation line. After writing more than fifty books, the bestselling author still gravitates toward the heat, including Temptation's popular Blaze imprint. Besides Temptation, she's published with Superromance, Love & Laughter and Duets. She's also been a featured author in several continuity series and anthologies. A finalist numerous times for Romance Writers of America's RITA award, Vicki has won the Desert Rose's Golden Quill Award and has been honored by Romantic Times and Affaire de Coeur.

Prior to selling her first book to Harlequin and finding her bliss, Vicki tried on other careers for size. Teaching English proved too restrictive when she discovered she didn't like being trapped in a classroom any more than the students did. Journalism seemed like a better idea, except that she kept getting assigned to scary stories like rattlesnake milking or parachute jumping.

Finally, her husband suggested she write a romance, which she took as a fine testimonial to their life together. Even better, the career was a perfect fit. Writing romances provides freedom from a schedule without fear of imminent death.

Besides writing, which she's quite passionate about, Vicki's favorite activities are traveling and laughing. Marriage to her indomitable husband, He Who Journeys Without a Map, has provided ample doses of both. Now that the kids are grown and Vicki has a laptop, she's finally positioned to combine all three of her passions. The trip has just begun!

Judy Christenberry, hasn't always been a writer, but she's always been a dreamer. As a child, for entertainment while doing chores, she told herself stories-she was always the heroine. However, Judy didn't start writing until she turned thirty-eight, just one year after her father's unexpected death.

After this, she realized life promised no guarantees about how much time you have. Why wait to pursue your dreams?

She had begun reading Harlequin Romance novels about ten years earlier, so romance writing came naturally.

Over time, Judy realized two central themes dominating her writing: family and small town/country life. Many of her books have cowboy heroes, partly because she read all Zane Grey's romantic versions of the Old West as a teenager, and partly because her parents grew up on farms.

As a child, Judy was surrounded by animals. Her father raised a few head of cattle to keep meat on the table. At one time or another, there were sheep, Thanksgiving turkeys, ducks and dogs, and there were always chickens.

Raised in a family of four children with a stay-at-home mom who was a terrific cook and an excellent teacher, where family tradition was concerned, Judy learned the importance of family at an early age. But, family comes in all shapes and flavors. What's important isn't the two parents and the 2.5 children, it's love and support.

The last element that frequently appears in Judy's stories is a dash of humor, just enough to bring a smile to your face. She believes laughter is good medicine and it definitely makes a six-foot hunk even more attractive!

Therefore, it may surprise readers when they discover Judy was born and raised in Dallas, Texas: a major city. In addition, her marriage ended fifteen years ago. Yet, with support from her mother and siblings, Judy and her two daughters discovered their own definition of family. She taught during the day, wrote at night, pursued her dream and raised her children.

Now, with her daughters pursuing their own dreams, Judy writes full-time and is wrapped up in her storytelling. She lives each new adventure with the vigor of a young girl, still dreaming up tales while washing dishes. She hopes to entertain her readers as much as she entertains herself!

Chris Wenger has worked in the criminal justice field for more years than she cares to remember. She has a dual master's degree in probation and parole studies and sociology from Fordham University, but the knowledge gained from such studies certainly has not prepared her for what she loves to do the most--write romance!

After writing and submitting unsuccessfully for twelve short years, one of the biggest thrills of her life was receiving "the call" from Susan Litman at Silhouette Special Edition books in January 2004. They wanted to publish The Cowboy Way. Yeee-haw!

A native Central New Yorker, Chris enjoys watching professional bull riding and rodeo with her favorite cowboy, her husband, Jim.

Visit Chris's web site at http://christinewenger.com or write her at P.O. Box 1212, Cicero, NY 13039.

Chris Marie Green writes as Crystal Green for Harlequin and Silhouette imprints. She loves to travel: some of her favorite destinations include Great Britain, New Orleans, Italy and Japan. In fact, you can see a couple of her travelogues on her web site at www.crystal-green.com.

When Chris was nineteen years old, she wrote a fan letter to Valerie Sherwood, a historical author who answered her gushing missive and inspired Chris to write her first romance. Today, that manuscript resides in a dusty file cabinet and will never see the light of day. However, Chris has moved on and feels lucky to have other stories published by the Special Edition, Blaze and Bombshell lines.
