Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Paula Rohrlick
This volume in the "Sports Illustrated KIDS" series offers a lively layout, lots of stats, and plenty of full-color photos. The first chapter covers famous firsts in the game of baseball; the field itself; equipment; and the first five players in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The second chapter focuses on "Tremendous Teams," including World Series greats, World Baseball and Olympic teams, and Negro Leagues Dream Team. Other chapters look at famous players and managers; baseball records; and fan favorites, from rare plays to best nicknames to beloved ballparks and mascots. There's even a trivia quiz. End materials include a timeline, a glossary, a brief bibliography, and an index. While the timeline goes up to 2010, the focus is more on baseball's history than the present day. Still, just about every library with young baseball fans will want this, for its appealing and colorful magazine-like look as well as for its wealth of baseball trivia. Other titles in the series cover basketball, football, and hockey. Reviewer: Paula Rohrlick

The book arrived Christmas Eve, just before we started opening our gifts. I thought it would NEVER get here.
