Children's Literature - Paula Rohrlick
Plenty of full-color photos and a lively layout are the hallmarks of this "Sports Illustrated KIDS" series, and this volume is no exception. It begins with a brief look at the game's origins, as well as the gridiron, football positions, equipment and uniforms. Chapter 2 tackles the teams, from Super Bowl champions to dynasties, greatest seasons, and top coaches. A chapter about players covers the top stars by position, MVPs, a dream team, and current vs. classic stars. Other chapters discuss the game's greatest moments, including biggest upsets, greatest plays, and records; and fan favorites, from stadiums to touchdown dances, mascots and cheerleaders. There are brief mentions of college football, Canadian football, and fantasy football. There's even a trivia quiz. End materials include a timeline (which goes up to 2010), a glossary, a brief bibliography, and an index. Young fans will enjoy the attractive magazine-like style and the many stats in this appealing overview of the sport. Other titles in the series cover basketball, hockey, and baseball.
