The Oldies but Goodies series was initiated in the '70s by disc jockey Art Laboe, owner of the Original Sound label. In the age of vinyl, if you wanted to hear oldies the best way to do so, without having to track down an entire album of the artist or group, was to invest in these LPs. In the digital age, these reissues aren't as fondly fetishized as they once were; oldies discs in the 21st century are a dime a dozen. However, you can't argue with the selection of timeless tracks or the midline pricing. Volumes 12 and 13 features 31 original hit recordings on two discs from artists like Ruby & the Romantics, Everly Brothers, Paul Anka, Stylistics, Marvin Gaye, Tommy James & the Shondells, Fontella Bass, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
